Making people and ideas findable

Are there wonderful "independent senior living" choices in Carmel or within a 10 minute drive?

My mom--83 yrs old but acts more like 70-- wants to move to the Carmel area. She doesn't really need an assisted living arrangement, and she values her independence, but she wants to move closer to where two of her kids live.

I have no idea where to begin, and thought I would turn to Smoosiers for help. She has a dog and loves to be surrounded by trees. Thanks for all your help

Thanks, Joe. My sister is visiting from Iowa and we have been visiting a couple of senior places. She will leave on Friday and I will call you then if we don't have a solution. I appreciate your offering to help.

Hi Amy --

It's not in Carmel per se but Marquette Manor is a fabulous spot (down just south of 86th at Towne Road, if memory serves me). I had a client who resided there until her death; lovely 'apartment-type' living setups (as big/small as needed) with options for nursing as needed.

They can have their hair done on site, sign up for social events both on/off campus, tons of fun -- quite frankly while still in my 30's I'd have loved to live there! ;)

Hey Cindy... My sister and I spent an hour at Marquette Manor yesterday, and you're right, it is wonderful. The waiting list is over a year long for the cottages, and the representative showing us around was very informative.

My sister and I also went to Hoosier Village, which was very nice and my mom could build her own home, there. We are still in the very early stages of looking, but I really appreciate your feedback.

You might check out Robin's Run at 62nd and Zionsville Rd. I've heard very good things about it.

A more efficient move would be to connect with the information and referral services at CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions. You can also call them at (317) 254-3660.

If you receive a solid solution to your question, would you please share with me? I also want to move to Carmel and want maintenance free living near my children. Thanks!
