Making people and ideas findable

Did anyone attend the event at Herron Today? What are your thoughts on the themes of the book, "Deep Economy," and how can we ACTIVATE our community?

I was there, but I showed up late. Too late to hear my name mentioned, although several people told me you did, so thanks for the plug. I did get to have several good conversations with people afterward. Hello to everyone I didn't get to talk to.

Pat - thank you for making this happen. I thought the panel discussion was great, as well as some of the follow-up responses.

I intend to blog about this, and will post it as soon as I complete.

Pat - I echo everyone else. Thank you, Brian and CICF for pulling this off. It was interesting and energizing. The more people who are made aware of our own Indiana Deep Economy, the better off everyone will be (duh...). More conferences, more education, inserting it into communications (tag lines on emails), etc. The BlogIN is supposed to be an unconference on blogging, but could the blogs have a theme to use as examples - i.e., this one? Same for the blog stunt. thanks again!

Many thanks to Pat for organizing, and Brian Payne for funding. The audience was a wonderful mix of people with interests ranging from environment, to the arts, to business.

I had several take-aways from the book and conversation:

A deep economy is interdependent with a need for local food, local music, local business, public transportation, and a general movement toward reconnecting with others.

We can Start Small - We don't have to change the world overnight, but making small conscious decisions on how we work and live changes the quality of our lives.

Reconnect with people - Say hello to your neighbors, and share a conversation or even a meal..

We have many elements already in place from good local food, music and art, to active small business associations, and a wonderful growing community on SI. Our challenge is to continue to look for ways to deepen our local economy.

Terrific event, Pat. Thanks especially to all who participated behind the scenes getting tickets sent out, making the technology work, arranging the venue, providing refreshments, &c.

We REALLY DO have a wonderful city, and it's people like those who participated today who are our future leaders.

KUDOS!

Pat,

Fantastic event and panel. Clearly we can no longer sit around and wish for solutions to these enormous problems that face us all to simply happen. The ball is in all of our courts. It's not simply a government or political issue.

Thanks to all for pulling off this discussion.

Pat:
Great event. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to participate. Do you know if an archived version of the live stream exists anywhere?

I too am wondering about an archive. I couldn't get the live stream to load.
