A letter from a teacher Ms. Kathleen Lyday - what do you think?

School teacher wrote a letter to President Obama criticizing his actions on a 2009 overseas trip -http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/l/kathleen-lyday.htm claims its Fiction!

here is a fragment from that site's comments:

Summary of the eRumor:
A forwarded email containing a letter to President Obama claiming to be from a school teacher named Ms Kathleen Lyday. The letter is critical of the things that the President said and did while on an overseas trip during March and April 2009.

The Truth:
This Letter began appearing in email in baskets, commentaries and internet blogs shortly after President Obama's 2009 trip to Europe.

Ms. Kathleen Lyday is a real person, works for Grandview Elementary School in Hillsboro, MO but told TruthorFiction.com that she did not author this letter.

We have not found who actually wrote this.

The letter opens with critical of remarks about some of what President Obama said and did while on his March/April 2009 trip to Europe. He took criticism, for example, for bowing to the the Saudi King Abdullah and and also for telling the Muslim world that the US was not a Christian country.

There is a CNN link on that page about the President's comments in Turkey. It was no the first time Mr. Obama made such a statement. On June 28, 2006, while serving as Senator of Illinois, Barack Obama was the keynote speaker at the "Building a Covenant for A New America" conference sponsored by a group called the Call to Renewal. He told attendees that the United States is not no longer a Christian nation but a nation of citizens with different beliefs.

I agree on most of what you said here, Phillip, and thank you for participating in our discussion.

I am not a Christian, I do appreciate Christian foundation though.

As a foreigner with a very keen understanding of human dynamics and very analytical mind (due to my formal education) I can see what you guys cannot.

Lets not repeat mistakes some European country made, so that we would have the "opportunity to grow"... in a right direction!

here is an opinion of another foreigner should you choose to look at it

Interesting video! She had some excellent points...and some that I wish she would have elaborated upon. But the video looked pretty edited to me, so perhaps she did.

I also do not consider myself Christian, though I too appreciate much of its foundation, if by foundation you mean its principles involving human rights. But then, I don't know of any major religion that doesn't include basic moral guidelines such as love and respect at its center (and there are those who will claim that Islam does not; however, they are the same ones who have not bothered to explore that religion beyond their preconceived notions.) This is my one of major beefs with Christian extremists - they operate under the delusion that Christianity is the first and/or only religion to subscribe to such principles. It's that lack of humility that turns me off.

Genie, I'm curious: what's the motive behind this thread?

Yes, David's piece was very good. In addition, I believe many of the Founding Fathers were
Theosophists (sp?). They believed in a creator, but not necessarily any religion.

Add this letter to a long list of stuff that is making Shepherd Smith of Fox News really worried: Link I am an immigrant, I want to believe that I have just as many rights as the person living next door, but I am not naive. As long as there are dominant groups there will always be some claim that will further their agenda. And these same groups will lash out when they sense a weakening of control be it political or financial. These letters and emails are just a product of that fear.

What rights are denied to you?

yeah... i would be curious too...
I was a refugee 19 years ago from the totalitarian regim...
with zero English and $400 for three of us and 4 suitcases.
With advanced degree in Custom Built Machinery designed I started with a much need job - cleaning people's bathrooms for $2.5/hr (not houses - toilets! I was as we would say today "outsourced")

Some might say that I have rights to work as a Mechanical Engineer a least...

I didn’t have money to pay for lessons or go to college to learn English so I just took matter in my own hands - to learn the language that people in this Country speak and here we go in few years I was designing equipment for Ford taillights assembly and Viper's doors. It wasn’t my rights - it was my privilege!
Nobody begged me to come to this Country it was solely my decision and it was my duties to adapt to this Country culture and tradition (without giving up my own heritage).

To answer Jennifer's question, "what was my motive?" - I do have the motive, Jennifer, in every moment of my life. One of them is I MAKE PEOPLE THINK! On their own, not as a crowd, not what media feeds them with. Another one is - I want this remarkable Country to keep its own unique way and for God sake never slips to the path where I've escaped from.
Its my duty to share with American people my experience, so that they would not need to have similar experience (just like we do it with our children). As a healer I do my best to educate American people how to take care of themselves and raise healthy happy new generation of Americans – free thinkers.
Those are my motives.

Who says you don't have as many rights as the person next door? None of us have as many rights as the social elitists on BOTH sides we keep electing into power. The link you provide can be described as typical liberal dribble in my opinion. It is the same mantra, all the time, label the Republicans as fear mongering and hate filled and distracted by pointless things such as Palin vs Lettermen, when we all know good and well if Lettermen said the same thing about one of the Obama daughters, there would be a national outrage. It is really getting quite old, the double standards in the media. If Bush was committing more troops to Afghanistan right now the media would be slamming him for not having a “plan” but Obama does it and is praised as visionary. Obama sticks pretty much to the same pull out plan on Iraq that he put Bush down during his campaign, and the mass media again is delighted. So many examples.

The popular thing to do is to label anyone with an opposing view to the mesiah as an extremist. That is the game plan. When Bush was in office (and I can't say I was a huge fan) you would here nothing but the same hate and dissapointment from the left for eight years, but yet know when its the right's turn, we need to be afraid and silence them? Shouldn't freedom of speech work both ways?

I think people are for the most part fed up with how the government is being run and as such you see a few states in the union now making changes to their constitutions to reaffirm their sovereignty. Should be very interesting in the next view years, especially if all these socialism based agendas fail miserably. Let’s hope not.

@Tino - Freedom of Speech goes both ways, yes I agree but not when one incites violence or fan flames of hate. There is some element of truth in that article that you quickly dismissed as liberal drivel. I only wonder what was in those emails that has Sheperd Smith worried!

While I find the use (or mis-use) of a real person's name and other details without permission to pursue an agenda unacceptable, quite a number of comments relative to the new Administration in Washington are sadly very accurate. We have elected a President who finds it more important to appease our allies and our enemies, rather than to defend this great & important nation. The leaning of the President on many issues to the far left (read this as socialism) should be cause for considerable concern for all American citizens and LEGAL permanent residents. Those who inhabit our country illegally should do what is required to legalize their status or they should leave, as did the great waves of immigrants in the past. Appeasement, when it comes to illegal immigrants, will be the downfall of this nation. Recognizing any language other than English as the country's official tongue will lead to horrendous problems in the future - just take a look at the awful linguistic squabbling that Belgium continues to experience, if you would like to understand this issue better. Once again immigrants of the past learned English and insisted that their children do so. This does not mean abandoning cultural differences - it only means communicating in a common tongue. This country was founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs and values - the position taken by some "liberals" that this is not the case is rubbish! While I have the greatest respect for peace-loving Moslems, some of the principals of their faith have no place in the basic fabric of this American society.

Thank you for your thoughts, Lewis.

I just came back from 30-days trip to Thailand and had heard there (dont remember the name of the TV program) that BO mentioned in China that he is not sure whether he is going to run for re-election in 2012...
