Making people and ideas findable

I am looking for those that may have participated in Saturday's Race for the Cure. If you did, can you share with me what your motivation was to participate? Also, if you took any pictures or video and would like to share them via Facebook and other social profiles, please email them to me at komenindy at gmail.com.

Komen Indy also announced their first ever YouTube video contest! Here are details on the contest: http://is.gd/t1ui

Thank you!!

After serving as a volunteer, a participant and a shopper of the great Race merchandise, I became re-engaged this year after one of my best friends from college was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer. After an aggressive treatment plan, a double mastecomy and a hysterectomy, I proudly walked next to her at this year's Race for the Cure. She became my motivation to want to get more involved - and now I'm looking forward to serving as the 2010 Race chair. See you there! :)

I participate in this race every year through my job and through knowing people that are involved with the race. It truly is one of the greatest events in Indy. The people that work there, the people that volunteer, and the people that come to be a part of it are all very inspirational. I would definitely encourage everyone to go to this race at some point.

I participated in the Race for the Cure for the first time this year. I never realized how huge of an event this was! To be completely honest, I participated because I have been working hard to run a 5K at under a 9 minute mile pace, and I actually achieved that goal on Saturday. Part of my motivation? Thinking about the women (and men) who have been through the adversity of breast cancer and the subsequent surgeries, radiation, and chemo therapy. If they can make it through that, I can run a measly 3 miles in under 9 minutes, right?

I was also pleased to see that many restaurants supported the event, as well, with their pink ribbons and balloons.

We lost our daughter to breast cancer in 2005. We participate in this wonderful event because of Laura and because we want other families to not have to negotiate the finality of losing someone to such a covert disease. Saturday was very uplifting for everyone!
