Making people and ideas findable

A truly spectacular musical artist died yesterday. Michael Jackson is a part of all of us. From his earliest days as a kid singing "ABC" with his brothers, and throughout his long and accomplished career, Michael and his music have penetrated into some of our happiest memories and into deep personal and private parts of our lives. His music is like a familiar scent, when you hear it it can trigger memories. So which song or songs will you remember most? And what memories does his music trigger for you?

Great topic Pat. For me it brings back a day of buying the thriller record..ahhh..records...i bought it as well as Men at Work "Business as Usual" haha. His music definitely takes me back to being a kid with beat it and billie jean, to staying up late to watch the premier of "thriller" on Friday night Videos, to thinking in college that it was creepy that the home alone kid was in his video. Ha. He definitely entertained, but still one of my favorite songs is Man in the Mirror.

Yea - Thanks Ian. I agree. And the 'weird' just became a bit much in my mind so I stopped giving him and any of news he created any of my attention.

OMG, Marty - you made me smile with the memory of Friday Night Videos. I just remember being a pre-teen and having my MJ poster on the wall and thinking he was amazing. There is a reason why Thriller is the best selling record of all time - it changed music forever. So many artists give credit to MJ as their inspiration. My favorite songs are PYT and Man in the Mirror.

Man in the Mirror > Black or White > Thriller ......

MJ was the embodiment of duality.

He was black or white, love or hate, male or female, left or right.
His talents for song & dance imprinted my soul with his unique version of waves or particles.

Quantum is weird.

Wow!!! Friday Night Videos - what a blast from the past!!! I remember Beat It and BIllie Jean and thought MJ was just the coolest of the cool!!! I loved watching him dance (and failing miserably with trying to emulate)...... He brought on fashion trends - red and black parachute pants.....those high top sneakers......that is how I choose to remember him....he had a bit of that cool "attitude" in the early days.

My memories of Michael were when I saw the Jackson Five on their last tour titled "The Victory Tour" and when they performed at MSA. What a great concert! Than, I remember Michael becoming a solo artist' performing with Dianna Ross in "The Wiz," and than his musical genius and collaboration with Quincy Jones for "Off the Wall". WOW! Dancing at Talbott Street (yes, the original) and hearing the music on the radio on every station - Pop, Rock, R&B, Soul - he brought all musical styles and genres together. To this day, I still listen to that album/CD. I wore out my vinyl years ago, but still have it and remember it fondly. He was an amazing talent with a tormented soul. I'm still shocked that he is gone at such a young age. RIP MJ.

I believe I was around 7 or 8 years old and I had a Thriller poster that I hung in my bedroom that I ended up having to take down because my sister was too scared of it... :) I can remember going down in my Grandma's basement and finding Mike Jack records and being sooo excited... I remember his hair catching fire... I LOVE the video to The Way You Make Me Feel...

I will remember him for all the good that he did. What a huge icon... He is known all around the world. What an awesome accomplishment.

R.I.P. Michael.

I had the pleasure to see him live, up close and it was awesome. It was the BAD tour and when the lights dimmed, "Bad. Who's Bad? Bad. Who's Bad!" came across the sound system pounding into my chest with the words in huge bright lights...Then, Michael appeared out of nowhere on center stage! People were freaking out and I must admit I had chills throughout most of the show. FYI: Cheryl Crowe was a back-up songer on this tour (Big hair and all!). Kinda crazy!

I never wore the jacket, glove or pants, but he inspired me from chilhood on. I won't pretend to get some of his idiosyncracies, but that's alright. I don't need to. He is the King of Pop and will always be a part of my remarkable childhood.

I'll leave you with this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_hz2am90Hk&feature=featured

I remember when the jackson 5 performed at Schofield skaing rink in east Indny before they were discovered.

My favorite is "who's Loving You?" I sing it pretty gret, too!

My best memory of his music is when I was dating Grand Master Flash and we were in a club in Dallas. He did a "Billy Jean" master mix on the turntables and dedicated it to me. We were doing a live remote and all of Dallas heard the dedication - including my local boyfriend who didn't know I was at the club that night!!
