Making people and ideas findable

Once again this year I am coaching Varsity cheerleading at The Indianapolis Metropolitan High School. I was just informed that our athletic budget is literally ZERO dollars! We currently practice on a concrete floor and have uniforms that are stained with no school letters of anything printed on them. My girls already have overcome home obstacles and this team for them is the way that they express themselves, let alone it pushes them to do better in school and keeps them form less desirable afterschool activities. I feel for them when we travel to games and cheer against girls with brand new gear, years of gymnastics experience, etc. I do my best to pump them up the ways I can...but unfortunately the truth is that MONEY would help that a lot.

I would like to get gym time with an instructor and on safe floor, new uniforms, etc.

PLEASE HELP with ideas for company sponsors, grants, fundraisers (keep in mind there is not a large financial pool for them to ask from)!!! If we get enough, I would like to provide a couple student buses throughout the year so teh basketball team can have a crowd. This is currently an issue because our students and families come from all over the city and the majority are city bus riders.

Any help is greatly appreciated. beckyreich@sbcglobal.net

You might consider a "flip" on the traditional pancake breakfast -- Check out www.chriscakesindiana.com. I've been to a Chris Cakes event before and it's a lot of fun!

Thanks for the idea.

Our biggest problem with more traditional fundraisers is that our students come from all over Indy and they and their families only mode of transportation is the metro! Needless to say, in addition to the lack of financial funds to support fundraisers, the transportation stops the rest who might be able to afford it.

Becky,
How much do you need to raise? Do you have a list of everything you need - aside from $$ -so you can ask for in-kind sponsorships - I have some ideas, but need a little more info. - feel free to email me kristen@roundpeg.biz

We need gym time for stunting/gymnastics, new uniforms and/or embroidery of our current with school name, CD player, mats for practice. I would love for the girls to be able to spend less which would mean- spankies, tennis shoes, hair bows. On their wish list: warm ups, duffel bags, cheer camp or competition. In addition to the necessities, it would be great to have some cheer gear that they can wear to show what they are a part of (hoodies, t shirts, etc). Right now they have to pay so much to participate that they can't afford those additional items to show their pride.

Aren't you sorry you asked? : )

I am open to all ideas!

I'd love to help you with this. I think we could divide your list into two categories - in-kind donations needed and money needed. Then we can get started finding sponsors for both. Please contact me via email so we can connect off-line. ~Kristen

It is sad to read this. I wish that all kids had the same opportunities. Let me see what I can do, and I will get back with you. I've got a few contacts that may be able to help.

I know this sounds like a joke, but I'm being completely serious. Have you considered Oprah? I could be wrong, but isn't this type of thing right up her alley. Or Ellen? You get the idea.

Talk to Motionwear. They are a gymnastics, dance, and cheer/team wear manufacturer on the SW side of Indianapolis. They may be able to help with donations or at least some funding ideas.

They are definately on my list. Thanks! : )
