New CA law makes impersonating others illegal on Facebook. What do you think about that??

Pretending to be someone else on Facebook, or anywhere else online, becomes a crime in California as of this Saturday.

The law specifically prohibits impersonating anyone online with the objective of harming, intimidating, threatening or defrauding. Such acts become misdemeanors punishable by a fine up up to $1000 and a year in
jail.

 Someone's pretending to be you...

What do you do?

Looking for a friendly faces? Emailing everyone you know explaining and apologizing?

What if your fake FB account just for a fun of it got changed your mariatal status to “single”… and you have a jealous and short tempered wife?
What would be your chances to get out of this mess unhurt? Slim to none?

Social Media sites can be and sadly already had become a deadly place.
Especially to teenagers, those who are emotionally vulnerable and lonely people...

So what do you think - is pretending to be someone else on FB, LJ, Bebo, MS etc a crime?

lets pray that it would never happen to anyone...

If Facebook properly policed the sight and upheld their ToS there wouldnt need to be a law.
Is it legal to impersonate someone offline?
Not a police officer. Depending on the depths of what their impersonation actions led to Im sure it would be illegal.
