Pay It Forward Smaller Indiana.....
This time of year I always get more energy, desire and focus on wanting to help others and not necessarily those who need it more, but anyone. I'd like nothing more than to extend a helping hand right now. I have this vision of us, here on SI, to contribute to a cause. Not just our money, but our time and talent.
Who would like to form a group of great folks and be a contribution this holiday season? Considering we all have many obligations and other things going on, I recommend we take a weekend, a Saturday, and do something awesome for someone, some group, or for some cause.
I'm not suggesting hopping on an existing bandwagon. I'm suggesting doing this as a group from Smaller Indiana. Contrary to conventional/conditional thinking we, as a group, can do something magnificent in a very short amount of time. I've seen it and have done it before. So, forget about talking, overplanning, tight budgets, business plans, and traditional protocol. Let's simply DO something and make somone's life much better than the minute before they met us.
Assume nothing as being small or stupid. Share your ideas! If time and energy doesn't permit you helping in person, please offer something (a connection, a phone call, a tip, an open door.....whatever).
I'm up for suggestions and I'll tee it up by starting with stocking the food pantries. What I mean by stocking is OVERstocking....
Another option is having a shoe party. I could speak with Blake Mycoskie, Founder of Toms Shoes. This is a socially responsible company and their cause is simple: For every pair of shoes you purchase, TOMS will give a pair to a child on need.

I like the idea you have for the holiday spirit of giving, but I am not certain about Tom's.
What about holding an event with a general Thanksgiving theme?
I can contribute a booth for making holiday cards with photos taken on the spot. Sample cards will be provided to choose from, and a photo will be taken for use on the card. The cards will be generated thereafter, and sent to the address provided.
By then, I can collect a few holiday props to be used in the photos.
I must charge at least a minimum of cost, but the services will be given to 'pay it forward'.
I don't know, any feedback on this idea? Or perhaps more additives for such event?
I am thinking Fishers or Carmel, any takers?

I am always wanting to do something to help everyone. I have a Girl Scout troop that I can get involved as well as possibly at least one class of second graders, and maybe even a school system. Once we decide on something, I'll see who all I can get involved!
I look forward to seeing what we can all do!

There are many needs in our community....would you consider supporting Teachers' Treasures by holding a collection of school supplies (glue sticks, crayons, construction paper, filler paper, etc.) to benefit over 100,000 schoolchildren in Central Indiana? We provide classroom materials to 228 schools - public, private, parochial and charter - with a student population of 40% or more on the free lunch program. We're located at 1800 E. Tenth Street (in the former Kroger store across from Woodruff Place). Volunteers are welcome, too...teachers shop for free for the needs of their kids. We sort through donations, stock shelves, bundle, and assist teacher-shoppers, and I can always use help generating donations! We're open to suggestions! I've done this for years through Walgreens...it is cool...but shop early 'cause the "ornaments" with senior wishes go quickly. Leave your purchases at checkout, and they wrap and deliver your gifts! Seniors are often forgotten...and the needs on the wish lists will tear at your heart.

That's exactly what I thought. We always focus on families and children, but I haven't heard of any focus on seniors. I thought this was great.
