I think it is a bit much to put them on the registry, but I think some sort of punishment that would help them understand the danger of this sort of crime would be warranted. Maybe they could be required to work Call center software in a place where the victims of child porn are hurting. As they talk to the victims and see the damage, maybe they would understand the severity.

Saturday morning SI perusing and I get this topic among my first readings lol.
Seriously, I just wish to say kudos to each of the responders on the issue, am always uplifted seeing thoughtful and intelligent opinions expressed within various subjects here, especially on such a serious matter as sexting and the sexual pervert registry.
Personally I am much more open in my overall views of Criminal Justice than 40 years ago and feel the felony definition is far too broad in scope to fit today's reality and we don't seem to address the system overall whatsoever. My main concern rests with the multitudes jailed and imprisoned with endless studies indicating that is not the real answer in securing expected safety levels for our populace. However repeat offenders should suffer stronger consequences.
All I know is I learn of the staggering costs of inmate housing on local, state and Federal levels and it's no wonder I see RED...that's the color of the ink.
Wholehearted agreement that this sexting kick is more prankish that criminal. Stupid yes but isn't labeling a teenager a sexual pervert a major stretch in comparison to a 40 year old man soliciting sex online from teenagers an apples to oranges thing? And we want both to be FELONIES?
Case dismissed!
