The noise! And all they ever have available is coffee drinks and muffins. What if I want a milkshake or a "real" sandwhich, not some fru-fru $8 creation? The good news is that they're all over the place so that makes them an easy landmark. But honestly, I've done equal amounts of business at the BoatHouse restaurant at 56th and 465 on the west side or at a McDonald's where we can get a booth, sit in the back, and be in-and-out pretty easily. And I dunno, maybe it's the manly man in me, but I just can't bring myself to drink a $5 cup of coffee that looks and sounds like a dessert. lol

Not new comments here, but I find that the coffee smell on my clothes and hair when I leave Starbucks is kind of nasty. And at some of their locations, the music is just too loud. Likewise, yesterday I met with someone at Paradise Bakery & Cafe on Meridian and left with a sore throat from having to talk so loud. Having said all that, I love getting out into the cafe/coffee shop environment. And I don't drink coffee! I like the energy and the chatter. I like bumping into people I know. It's enough to be energizing but not so much as to be distracting (usually). I worked in an office environment for 20 years. Being out in these places balanced with time in my home library is much more comfortable for me personally.
