Making people and ideas findable

The July issue of GQ featured an article by Neel Shah who was having a full blown rant about how women dress for dates. Mr. Shah has ditched more than a few women for wearing clothes he found to be not so in style.

So, guys, how often have you done this? Have you taken one look at what your date was wearing and said, "It ain't gonna happen!" based solely on what she was wearing? How much does what a woman wear affect your decision to get to know her? Does it really matter how stylish she is? I am just a curious image consultant!

Do men think that woman can be sexy in tennis shoes?

Isn't that the entire basis of Anna Kournikova's career in tennis and her subsequent celebrity? A woman can be very sexy in tennis shoes depending upon what else she is or isn't wearing and, perhaps even more important, how she is looking at you.

So to go back to Annie's original question(s), and acknowledging that I've been married a long time and long removed from the dating scene, it isn't so much the clothes but the look in the eyes that got my attention.

But I also have to confess that I am pretty totally fashion ignorant and could benefit a great deal from Annie's image consulting if I cared to.

Going out, I dress both down and up depending on the situation.

I have never dropped a woman for what she dressed.

Women have always respected me enough, and visa versa, to dress right on a date per the situation.

Erik is right about Mr. Shah.

This man is too worried about how the woman is going to make him look. But, isn't that much of the fare that comes out of GQ.

Back when I was dating... if she's wearing something scandalous my desire to get to know her was negatively affected. I care very little for how 'in style' the clothing may or may not be. That is definitely reflected in my own clothing choices. I want to look nice but I have far better things to spend my energy on than how stylish someone may be.

I believe it's the woman that makes the clothes, not the clothes make the woman.
