Why are white people acting so crazy about Health Care?

Before I get to my questions. I want to make a couple of personal disclosures
1) I have not and will not have the time to read Obama’s health care bill. However I do think that the Government should regulate, monitor, and provide healthcare for all citizens. And those of us who can afford to pay for their own coverage should have the choice to choose.

2) I have had several welfare Christmas when I was a kid. So I’ve benefited greatly from government assistance programs

3) I voted for the black guy (aka Obama)

I’m trying to understand this “white rage” that has been taking place at the health care town halls. What doesn’t make sense to me is this.

If these people are so passionate about health care reform. Why aren’t they taking their arguments to the hospitals, & corporate headquarters of insurance companies?

If they want a “non-socialist” government. Why aren’t they calling for the end of Social Security, Welfare, and food stamps?

Where were these people when Bush gave away money 2008?

Here are my three theories on why they are really mad and I would like to know what you think.
1) White people are really mad about health care?

2) They are mad about having a black president named Obama?

3) the "left" is in control and The Glenn Beck/Sara Palin crazy train has got the fringe right thinking it’s the end of world

Thanks for reading, and I would love to here what you think and if you think this will happen in Indiana.

Was I against Bush when he gave away money? Damn straight! I'm still pissed at his 'Patriot Act' and the bailouts... all violations of our constitution. I would love the end of social security, welfare, and food stamps Asa! Is it because I want to be mean to people who benefit? No! I took advantage of WIC when my son was born and it was a life-savor.

This isn't about humanity or charity - I'm all for both. I just hate seeing our government do it. Private schools outperform public schools at a fraction of the cost. FedEx and UPS outperform the USPS. Red Cross pays out 90 cents on the dollar to those in need, welfare is under 50 cents per dollar. Freddie and Fannie Mae were great programs - until the government loosened the requirements for getting a loan.

The problem when you put things in the government hands is that there are no repercussions for wasteful spending, exploding bureaucracy, and we often see cronyism infiltrate the programs. The goal of someone in government is to stay in power, not build the most cost-effective strategy around a system.

You may be surprised to find out that I want healthcare change! I lived in Canada for 6 years under the single payor system and I received good healthcare. But Canadians are much more responsible with their deficit and budget than our hogs in Washington.

So - I LOVE the concept. A year ago I lived a year without healthcare because I could not afford the $800+ in COBRA (what a joke!) I just don't trust our government to do it effectively. I don't care about left or right... I just want to make sure we're not going down a road that we can't come back from.

I'm not crazy... but I am white.

Echo what Doug Said, .. and I am Crazy, and Color hasn't got a dang thing to do with it. Socialism and Communism are still the same, no matter what color they People in power are.

Socialism and Communism are NOT the same.

you are right, the only difference is how they come to power, Socialism gets to power by ballots and Communism gets to power by Bullets... the difference between Hugo Chavez & Fidel Castro.... that's it.

Ummm.... Doug.... I hate to break the news to you...

The Red Cross receives Local, State and Federal money. It's not all charitable contributions and volunteers.

And you say "Freddie and Fannie Mae were great programs - until the government loosened the requirements for getting a loan."

It's not that simple. the CRA ended red lining - changing the terms of a loan based on the race of the borrower or the part of town they lived in, not their ability to repay. Firms like Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers created sub-prime lending instruments on their own in order to create mortgage-backed securities to resell on the market. There was never any government mandate to create sub-prime loans or Option ARMs.

You then offer: "The problem when you put things in the government hands is that there are no repercussions for wasteful spending, exploding bureaucracy, and we often see cronyism infiltrate the programs."

Actually, that's the basis of our Republic. It's called elections. That is the repercussion for wasteful spending and exploding bureaucracy.

Lastly, you say, "I just don't trust our government to do it effectively."

But you DO trust the health insurance companies and drug companies to be effective in helping you find affordable health care coverage? The same companies who've been profiting in the hundreds of billions of dollars from their claim denials, rising premiums and locked down pricing models?

REALLY?!? Are you freaking kidding me?!?

It's crazy man. People get so hyped up over the *gasp* SOCIALISM fear that they don't even realize that Insurance companies who could give a crap about any of us are running the show right now. I don't know anyone that is 100% satisfied with their health insurance, and I'm sure it will be the same way after the overhaul, but I definitely feel better knowing we elected the people who are making health care decisions now....Anthem could care less about how I feel.

I can assure you with 100% confidence that the government doesn't care about you either. Or the horse you rode in on. Or your dog.

What Scott said :o)

Okay. The point here is that we are going to have to make a choice...and I'm definitely not siding with corrupt insurance companies.
