Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

As part of the Indianapolis Tastecasting Team, I recently visited the newly established Brickhouse Burger Co. on the south side (formerly Damons just off 465 and Kentucky Ave.).

I sampled, among many other unique menu items, two of the restaurants specialty "stuffed burgers." The first (pictured above) was called the Italian Stallion. As you can see, the burger is thick and a little small for the bun, but that's what I've come to expect from a stuffed burger. The pepperoni and provolone cheese on top were nice compliments, and inside... guess what? More cheese and even a bit of zesty pizza sauce. Overall, the beef was delicious (after all, the burgers are fresh and hand-packed, not frozen), and the flavor was very reminiscent of pizza with ground beef as a topping. The pairing of the zesty pizza sauce and pepperoni married nicely with the burger, and it was definitely a pleasant variation from a traditional burger.

The second stuffed burger I sampled was the jalapeno cream cheese stuffed burger. Now, this one was over the top - in a good way. The jalapeno flavor was bursting from the inside of that burger and the cream cheese tamed it just enough (like those delicious deep-fried "poppers" we all know and love). The pepper-jack cheese on top was an obvious, but perfect compliment.

Both burgers were half-pounders served on a brioche bun. The patties weren't the juiciest I've had, but they weren't dry as one might expect from a burger that's gone through the workings of being stuffed. For what each burger lacked in beefy juices, the flavors of pizza sauce or cream cheese and jalapeno made up well. Overall, a very delicious outing... and can I say that more than the burgers were stuffed by the time our Tastecasting Team hit the road.

@Rocky I was at Brickhouse recently and had the Jalapeno Cream Cheese Burger to which you alluded. Here are a couple of photos:

Mmmmm, makes me hungry. I'll have to get back there to have another of these soon. Onion rings look good too. I didn't try those when I was there. Were they good?
