The Great Hoosier Burger Quest

There's always been lots of talk about great burgers. Let's get down and serious about it now. No restrictions, but lots of criteria. We need descriptions of WHY it's a great burger.

Review-Barringer's Burger

Now for the review: I told the waitress I wanted to hear about their cheeseburger. She started out by saying it's 10 oz of fresh ground beef, not frozen. Good start. So I ordered it with lettuce, tomato [extra charge], bacon [extra charge] with mayo on the side. Next did I want pepper jack, Swiss or American. Pepper jack, of course. I asked for sauteed onions, she said sure. Then she cautioned me that they take about 15 minutes and asked me how I'd like it cooked- medium and juicy of course.. The friendly folks from the group made the time fly. The burger arrived presented as Nicki's photo shows. It was terrific. Juicy, sloppy, tasty-just what I'd want in a burger. The cheese was melted just enough that, along with the onions, The bun was not noticeable, and that's a good thing. The bun should either be benign or really attract your attention in a positive way. [Which has only happened once as I can recall]
If you are really needing a burger fix, Barringer's would make an excellent choice. Definitely a 9+ rating.

Let me add a recommendation for whenever anyone is in the Fort Wayne area. Powers Diner makes the greatest onion burger/slider I've ever had. Check them out:

@Mike, are you coming to Hole In the Wall Lunch today? Your wife was at the last one at Santorini's. I hear great and wonderful things about 5 Guys, and I saw Bub's last week in Carmel, and didn't realize what I was looking at.
Brian Huff Comment by Brian Huff on December 12, 2008 at 9:15am
My personal favorite is the double jalapeno burger w/everything from Workingman's Friend. I also like Bub's Burgers Big Ugly Elk burger in Carmel.

I'd like to get some reviews. You know, a bit more detail. What made/makes it so good. I had an extreme burger at Lincoln Square last Friday. Very meaty, lots of fresh veggies, the obligatory [in my book] sauteed onions, cheese, bacon, and a nice taste of charcoal grilling. At $7.59 it was just a bit pricey, but that included some very good clam chowder and fries. I've wanted to try Peppy Grill for a long time and I'm ready to hit WMF again, it's been way too long.

I'm in. I've never been to WMF and would love to. I like the Peppy Grill's burgers on Fountain Square as well as 5 Guys. If we include Metro area, Bub's on the Monon in Carmel is awesome.

Good start guys. Let's talk it over at lunch tomorrow. I'm havin' a burger. I'll rate Barringer's. I knew I'd see you two here!

I've never had TDG, but I think a few of the top burgers are Working Man's Friend and Boogie Burger. I'm also partial to the Ram's BBQ Bacon Cheddar.

I'd have to say that Tie Dye Grill is high on my current list for killer burgers in Indy.
