Vince, I will attend on the 9th it sounds like a great opportunity to meet others. I spent 3 weeks in china with local friends, wow did they show me the ins and outs of China. Can't wait to go back, I fell in love with China and the people.

I am new to this group, and to SI--and this is my first post within the group, so be gentle. : )

For the past couple of years I have been studying the infrastructure of the Internet and how it can provide a "neutral conduit" for ideas. There are currently over one Billion people on the net... very soon that number will be three Billion. For the first time in recorded history a regular guy in Indianapolis will be able to communicate with a regular guy in China. What ideas will be shared, and how will we communicate effectively?

I started a group based on this passion called " I P on everything " I welcome you all to join. We live in exciting times.

What if this group worked collaboratively to predict and solve an issue thay may arise from grassroots communication between China and Indiana? The first step would be to indentify a possible issue, don't you think?

Hi All, it does seem as if there are some great opportunities to get more involved in the Chinese community here, and some great items mentioned here.

The Confucius Institute in Indianapolis is having an inauguration ceremony April 25 starting at 10am at IUPUI Cavanaugh hall. I will be there, hope to see you there too.

John, is there a specific event you'd recommend during the Ming that might be a good opportunity for some of us to meet? Ghost Opera?

A humorous story, Ran, who is in this group, gave me some Chinese medicinal herbs? when I mentioned my knee was aching. Youre supposed to put it in bathwater. I'm not sure what it is but it looks like Marijuana with stems and all and I was a little concerned about get pulled over on the way home with 8 bags of it!

She is in China now doing some prep work for my visit there end of May.

Hi John: there is one more organization I can think of: ICCCI (Indianapolis Chinese Community Center, Inc. (http://indy-iccci.org/). My kids attend the Sunday Chinese Language School organized by ICCCI. Both ICCCI and Lilly's Chinese Culture Network (CCN) have well-connected people that may help you expand your options further.

lend me your brains, Smaller Sinophiles. Oct 26 to Jan 11 IMA will have a major exhibition, "Court Arts of the Ming Dynasty." As always, IMA is planning to put on a cluster of Chinese-related performances, discussions, etc. The highlight of what they have lined up so far is a visit by the composer Tan Dun and a performance of his "Ghost Opera." (Check out the Kronos Quartet's version of this work.)

I'd like to use this exhibition and connected events as a platform for connecting and amplifying the work of a lot of organizations around Indy that care about China. In a few weeks I'll convene a discussion with these groups to talk about how they can plug into IMA's endeavors (e.g. are there any speakers or events IMA could add to their list); and even better, to get these groups talking to each other about how to collaborate.

Who to invite? Who cares about China around Indy? Colleges' Asian studies programs (including IUPUI's Chinese government funded Confucius Institute opening in April); k-12 schools offering Chinese language; Eli Lilly's Chinese cultural club. Who else? What local businesses are particularly engaged in China?

And as long as I have started picking your brains ... what sorts of thought-provoking events do you think IMA or other groups could organize about China (culture, history, politics, etc.)?
