Hello Lena, sounds like you are doing some very good work. Things are coming together for this years "Simply Healthy: Creating Sustainable Communities" Simply Living Fair and Wellness Expo. The dates are the 12th through the 14th of November. We are excited because the Vendor Demonstration area will be set up on Saturday the 14th in the Showers Building (Bloomington City Office Building) beside the Farmers Market! This will give so much greater access to our participants. We are hoping to have the workshops nearby. We will begin holding regular meetings in a few weeks. Alas, the time has come to turn onto a different path...
I have decided to close the remodeling business. It will remain open on the surface, and I will not turn down the right opportunity but I have to go in a different direction. I am frustrated by the number of contractors out there that have no art to their work. I am also frustrated by the number of customers that could care less about "green" and only concern themselves with cost.
So, after much discussion with my better half, we have decided to take no more projects unless they are in fact green. For me artful is a bonus too.
We are not advertising anymore. We are not seeking business. I am looking for a full time job right now. If we found an investor that wanted to do green rehabs we would go that route but, as it stands today, we are going to hold off until we can secure the financing to do our own green projects remodeling and building.
All the Chicken Littles are screaming the sky is falling but there is still a market for green homes for resale and remodel. I know this...I feel it.
So, I don't know what a benefit I will be to this group going forward. Maybe I can bring something to the table when we start our own projects or find investors. I don't know.
Last thought...we are still working to get the word around Central Indiana about green and the benefits thereof.
May we all be able to get that message out.

Gods Speed,

Greg

Midwest Organic Coffee Company is a one year old business in Marion. We started our company because of our passion for fresh roasted coffee and our belief in using as much organic products as possible. We would like to share this passion with others. We do private tastings for coffee loving groups. It is a fun experience similar to a wine tasting. If you would like to schedule an event, contact us. Read some reviews about us. All of our coffee is roasted custom for you, never pulled from a shelf. Contact us with your coffee questions, we love to talk coffee.

Great group! I am the owner of Signature Lawn Solutions, and looking for ways to operate a greener company than my competition. Currently reviewing info from the GBL. I would like to find out as much as I can about becoming certified. I think this group might be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks

Hi Lena - sorry it took me awhile to get everything together to join you here. My schedule is back on track to get to the meetings as well. I've spent a lot of time getting our power reduction program rolling, but we're finding a tremendous amount of demand for it now and it's keeping us busy. It seems that businesses are interested in cutting costs right now - imagine that. Let me know how I can be of service. I am going to add one more post because I need some feedback from members on some upcoming things we've got going. Let me know how I can be of service to you.

Hello! I'm a writer and columnist based in Plymouth, Indiana. While I do business copywriting and editing, and a little teaching on the side, my real niche is writing about the environment. I'm a contributing writer for Indiana Living Green magazine and both my columns deal with the realities of everyday green living. I'm interested in writing articles profiling businesses trying to "go green." Do you have a story to tell? Let me know!

Lena,
You are right on here. It is a frame of mind and a choice to purchase not only sustainably made products, but also products manufactured on the continent in which you live. These products are usually superior in quality to go along with the 5-20% extra cost as compared to a Chinese made item. Take a recycled plastic item manufactured in China. It's at least a triple whammy on the environment. Most of the PCW plastic used is shipped from the USA. Then, the items are manufactured with less efficient coal producing electricity technology. And then they are shipped back to the USA for distribution. Carbon emissions are easily doubled or tripled, not to mention the other pollutants released into our air and oceans!

The consumer that is not as concerned with these eco impacts can at least understand that North American products usually last longer and thus cost less over time. And, they help our economy and our neighbors work and provide for their families. It's simply a win-win-win scenario for us all!

"Sustainability is prosperity!"

Greg,

What you sad: "going green means an attitude, a perspective and an evolving curiosity gear towards a willingness to thoughtfully examine how not to adversely impact the environment around us" is the best definition of green I have seen so far. Green is working smart. It means being frugal and cost conscious. Resent studies show that people are willing to pay an extra dollar for Eco friendly products and services. So what it ultimately leads us to when green company increases the price and lowers its cost, it leads the business to sustainable profit in a sustainable way.
Great document you refer to here. Thank you
