Lena…

Thank you for these notices regarding the Green Business Network meetings.
Unfortunately I had a conflict for the last one… and will be “conflicted” (only schedule-wise) for the next one.

Though I cannot attend the February 18th meeting, please allow me to share this tantalizing piece of information regarding the economic impact of sustainability.

In our segment of the design-build industry here in the Midwest, we are constantly being challenged by prospective clients and owners regarding the “cost of going green”. My position is that going green” does not automatically mean earning a Platinum LEED certification or having a hyper-high performance HVAC system retrofitted into a thirty-year old structure, but rather it reflects an attitude, a perspective and an evolving curiosity gear towards a willingness to thoughtfully examine how not to adversely impact the environment around us.

When I came across attached reference from GreenSource Magazine highlighting CoStar findings for conventional vs. green buildings, I was elated. Now I can push the dialogue with prospective owners & clients to a different level…
Co-Start Study Article.pdf
“Oh, so then you don’t want to have a property that enjoys a higher occupancy rate, allows you to earn more revenue per sq.ft and, regardless of your exit strategy, allows you to sell your asset at a significantly higher value per sq.ft… fine. We’ll be happy to build you lesser value more conventional building.”

Hi Greg,
I just read the comments regarding your business idea. it sounds great. I know in CO, there are some businesses similar to what you're thinking of doing. The ones I'm recalling dealt with construction and interior components for buildings. I know of two that received grant money in CO. Now, wheter it's possible to get grant money for something like this in IN, I don't know. There's a place in Boulder called Resource Yard. They can be found at http://www.resourceyard.org/. They may have dome useful info for you.

Thank you everybody attended the first Green Business Network Meeting! We had a great turn out - around 35 people showed up. People stayed around for a solid hour talking to each other. It was exciting see so many like minded individuals in one room. The conversations among them are never ending...except that we had to leave the facility;)

I have talked to a lot of the attendees and is happy to see they are excited and looking forward to come back to the future meetings. The next meeting will be held at the same time and the same place.

Green Business Network is a vivid example where the weakness of individual is replaced by the power of many. Let's move up that ladder from the 49th place of being green in the US to the first 10!

Anybody who could not come to the first meeting - Join us next Wednesday!

Lena,
The Green consulting license will be from the Green Business League http://greenconsultanttraining.com/
The program is actually the opposite of the LEED certified, Which looks at the structural building aspect and then the operational part of the building. the GBL program looks at the operational side of a business and then the structural side......allowing for small businesses, rental properties (business and residential) and private residential, to internally go green. It is a point system that these businesses can earn over a years period of time with the consultants help. The points will add up for tax deduction and overall savings on energy bills as well as providing a whole circular system of green businesses that surround the company.

I am looking forward to learning more about it and can give you an even better definition once I have completed the program!

The Old National rooms are pretty nice and the parking isn't to bad. I thought they had a couple of rooms that were a little bigger. Are NFIB group meets there frequently.

Great group Lena... Keep up the enthusiasm...
Old National Banks let you use their conference rooms at no charge. Of course you have to call and reserve the time and they hold about 12 to 15 people.

Looks like I can make it at this time. Still a little early to committ. I have an NFIB leadership counsel meeting around that same week so I will double check my calender tomorrow.
