I plan to spend a couple of days next week in the Hickory Ridge area of HNF. I've never been in that part of the Forest. Can anyone tell me what to expect about the condition of the trails, interesting things to see (e.g., cemeteries)?

Mike, sorry I missed this post before you went to Hickory Ridge. That location is on my list. I did two days in Deam Wilderness in late June and really enjoyed that. I'll post a trip summary soon, as I found my map for that trip over the weekend.

As I sort of suspected, the trails in the Hickory Ridge area are primarily horse trails. Most are gravel, and the spots that aren't covered with gravel are a muddy mess. At least they were when I was there right after the 4th of July holiday weekend. There are lots of better places to hike in the HNF, and I doubt I'll go back to the Hickory Ridge area.

Looking forward to the Deam trip summary.
