I added the event to the main Smaller Indiana calendar. Had been looking for it and couldn't find it.

Two buried treasures:
1) Saigon - Vietnamese restaurant near 38th & Lafayette. Not a greasy spoon, also not a legible menu. I have to order by number/picture but can't seem to pry myself from #94 - a Make-Your-Own rice paper wrap with marinated chicken, shrimp and pork with assorted side dips (sucker for dips).
2) Mudbugs Cajun Cafe. One would never expect authentic Cajun in the Carmel Arts District, but it's the closest thing you can come to eating Cajun Food in the South. The gumbo is a liquid (not stew) as it should be, the po'boys with remoulade are to die for, and the hush puppies are like the Cheez-It of fried foods. I'm going to New Orleans next week, and the only thing I haven't already gotten my fix on there is boiled crawfish and Cafe du Monde.

Hey Matt, Ralph's Great Divide is actually the last place that the group had lunch at, last Friday. I had a blue cheese burger with the pea salad. Not a bad place at all.
Matt Theobald Comment by Matt Theobald on July 23, 2008 at 4:47pm
Ralph's Great Divide has a great little kabab lunch and is famous for their cheese potato soup (Hot Pot Aug). Pea salad also recomended. It's in a remote little corner of downtown off New York and Davidson, just before the interstate on the right.

Someone from SI suggested I post this message to this special group. I hope you don't mind. I am conducting focus groups to explore Hoosier’s restaurant and eating habits. We are looking for individuals to participate in this one hour study to help us learn more. Participants will receive $40. Focus groups will be held in Greenwood and Castleton on July 22 and July 23, respectively. Times include 11 a.m.-noon, 12:30-1:30 p.m., 5-6 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m. If interested, I have a short form that I'm hoping I can upload to this message. If it doesn't work, please e-mail me and I will send it to you. kelly@baisecommunications.com

Thank you in advance for your time. I've enjoyed seeing your comments and look forward to being a part of this group too. Thanks.

Hi Shelly,

Janko's Little Zagreb is indeed a dive: dark lighting, bad decor, mismatched tables and chairs, smoke from the fire pit in the restaurant. And yes, they do have absolutely incredible steaks.
Shelly Arens Comment by Shelly Arens on July 5, 2008 at 12:43pm
For the best steak EVER (never frozen meat!) visit Janko's Little Zagreb in Bloomington: 223 W 6th St, Bloomington, IN 47404
(812) 332-0694 - Closed Sundays. Well worth the drive. Also, please visit: http://indyethnicfood.com/ for a comprehensive directory of restaurants, searchable by ethnicity, chain or independent, zip code - includes reviews!

Sara,
I love Indian and Thai, and Middle Eastern. There's a great restaurant in Castleton, Mediterraneo. Their dinner menu is ok, the usual stuff, but their lunch buffet is a sight to behold. The owners are Persian so they put Persian dishes on there that are to die for. One of my very favorite dishes ever is Fessenjen, chicken slow cooked with crushed walnuts and pomegranate syrup, served over rice. Incredible.

lots of great Indian food at last. I nearly didn't move to Indy when I found there were no indian or thai restaurants in 1986! Recent lunchtime favorite buffet is Amber Indian 126 and Meridian, west side of road on set back strip.. hard to pick a favorite dish as lots to choose from but palak panneer and chicken tikka masala excellent. Fresh naan brought to your table
