Making people and ideas findable

Where shall we go? We were going to do sushi for April lunch, but we ended up doing Mexican instead... Does sushi in May sound good? If so, where do you suggest we go?

We (me and 2 others!) decided that May is Sushi. And not just any Sushi. It's the Rae and Brian Sushi Bait Lunch! The challenge will be finding a place which is a hole in the wall, meets health codes (hole in the wall and dead bait - hmmmmm) and, more importantly, can handle a large group.

Andy has alluded to a good point:

Do we want to have raw fish at a place that is a hole in the wall?

I'm all for doing sushi, and I'm all for doing a HITW. I'm a little worried about doing both at the same time.

But if you want something that's a little more hole-ish, I can suggest 8 China Buffet at Allisonville and 82nd. They've got a great Chinese food buffet, AND they serve some pretty good sushi. But it looks like it was last decorated in the late 80s –– post-modern Chinese buffet style. 8 China Buffet costs around $9 for lunch, and is all you can eat, including sushi.

I've been to 45 Degrees (which is VERY nice, not a hole) and runs around $8 for a lunch special, but nowhere else. There's Bando Restaurant, which runs about $9 - $15 in price.

Here's a Google Map search for sushi places around town.

What about the bait shop on Fall Creek across from the Fairgrounds? I bet we could work a deal for some yummy minnows.

Sakura was proposed last month but the question is whether they can handle a large group. While 8 China Buffet is not strictly sushi, its varied buffet will satisfy those who do not have an appreciation or pallet for raw fish. Personally I'd prefer a place which is known for its sushi but will defer for the greater good if that's where it takes us.

You all know me.....I am the anti-buffet girl - if sushi is the theme for May, then let's go to a good sushi place - 45 degrees does have good sushi....but I suspect some of you hard core sushi eaters have a good sushi place up your sleeve - - so let's hear it.....where is THE place to get good sushi..... :) I'm in.....

Why are you anti-buffet? I didn't know that about you.

My only concern about 45 Degrees is that it's not a true hole in the wall. It's a very nice upscale place. Now, if we relax our hole definition, then I'm all for 45 Degrees.

One of our favorites, too.

You know, I've wanted to try this place... This one has my vote!

I will consult with my sushi master (my wife) to see which good sushi places can accommodate a large group. I agree with Erik, though, bait and hole in the wall shouldn't mix.

No guts no glory! Or is that no fish guts, oh nevermind....

8 China Buffet has a lot of booths, so it may be hard to have huge groups sitting together.

45 Degrees can move tables around for big groups.

Sakura's already been mentioned, but my other fav is Ocean World at 86th & Ditch. Blu Martini & 45 Degrees both have great sushi (same owner), but Blu isn't open for lunch and I'm not sure 45 is either.
