Here are a couple of thoughts:

Engage your followers by asking and answering questions to interact with the Twitter community. It's a two way street, not a one way alley. @DeniseMichelle

Be polite--thank those who retweet your posts. Send tailored direct messages when someone requests to follow you vs. a standard reply. @DeniseMichelle
