Just wondering what people think of the latest report that Twitter is losing 60% of its users after the first month of signing up.

I'm not surprised. Using Twitter takes commitment. For those that are used to Facebook and other social networking sites, Twitter can be overwhelming in my opinion. The 140 character limitation can be frustrating at times as well.

It is all about expectations. Maybe Twitter isn't deliverying on the media hype and/or not meeting the expectations of first-time users.

Personally, I never think to go in and update. Maybe that will change when I get my new smartphone. I agree, the size limitation has been a challenge.

Man i think it's a good thing, You have to sign up to try it out, how many people try lots of things then decide ok i can't use this right now. if you could try it without sighning up then you would see that a high percentage of people that signed up would stay.

I actually find it pretty addictive. I think if new users had more information on how to find information and useful contacts, more would stay with it.

I agree. I also think that its user retention is being compared to Facebook and MySpace - the two superpowers of social spaces right now.

I think it's like anything else. Your BFF texts you and says "OMG, ur going 2 luv Twitter. chk it out!" and you do. You either fall in love or hate it from the start.

Attention span on the web anymore is very small and if it doesn't grab right away, I think it loses it's luster.

I use it. Then I don't. I download Tweetdeck or Twitterific for my smart phone, I use Twitter, then I don't.

It's a tool for some in the business world and a toy for others. Just depends on how you use it.

****Quick note - The reference to BFF... OMG ur going to 2 luv this drives me nuts. We can't even type out words anymore. :o )
