Matt,

I wanted to toss out parts of my 'unconventional' view of knowledge working. Among the key points of this view are:

1) Expertise is a political status and is not a function of knowledge working.
2) The concept of tacit knowledge is a fallacy.
3) All knowledge is created through questioning.
4) All knowledge is logical structure and questions are a perceived lack of knowledge structure.
5) There are two primary categories for questions, 1-learning questions and 2-knowledge creation questions.
6) Intelligence is knowledge stored that can be retrieved. By this definition, artificial intelligence has already been achieved. Artificial knowledge creation is what scholarship is really trying to understand and create, but they will never achieve this without first confronting the concept of the question.

"Information Law" is a relatively new way for lawyers/law professors to think about a bundle of statutes, regulations, and court decisions that regulate the flow of information -- financial information in the case of the Grahm-Leach-Bliley statute, health information in the case of HIPA, political campaign receipts and expenditures in the case of the FEC, et al. Sara Hook, Professor at the IU School of Informatics, has been putting together course materials in this area. Suffice it to say for now, there are a number of rules surrounding pure "information" of various types, even though the US lacks a comprehensive privacy policy as might be found in the European Union.

Matt et al.
My daughter has her Master's Degree from the University of Michigan School of Information. and I have taught Copyright Law and Intellectual Property Policy. I would suggest that there are laws and policies that can favor the flow of information and those that restrict it.
My hope for this group is that it will find an appropriate level -- neither too general, nor too bogged down in details.

Hi, Matt. Congrats on the new group. Looking forward to learning more and hoping I don't need to be a techie to "get it." Thanks.

I wanted to keep it simple and talk about information retrieval,
information management, visual information, the information age and related studies/professions. I saw the information icon recently and thought of it's minimalist design value.

I'm academically trained as a Librarian. Inform- at root is a verb. The suffix happens to be -formation. Information itself is a noun, and object. The object of the Information group is focus on the core nature of how we inform each other with technology and often get lost in jargon and specialized langauge.

"Information" is the basic discussion about information.
It's the common thread of the age.

I almost believe we've entered into an "Age of Connectivity" sometimes.

That's a start...

Thanks for asking for information about "Information".

What do we know about information and where it stands today and where it is going?

It is growing, at what rate and how do we deal with Information "Pain".
Filtering, usability, etc...

Data is not Information is not Knowledge is not Wisdom.

Let's Discuss.
