I certainly enjoy the lower fuel prices these past weeks however I don't feel it will last very long. We look across the ocean to Europe and they have been paying higher prices for several years...they have a unbelievable rail system which is something we need to further develop.

I really enjoy my SUV but a smart comsumer will have to down size in the future. Oil will go back to previous pricing...it's just a matter of when and my guess is next spring. Ethanol is a joke and will never be a viable replacement for fossil fuel unless a greater concentration of corn can be used in the mix.

We ended the day at more than 50% of the one time high of $147/barrel. 50% lower, that's a great thing! However, Gas prices peaked at $4.11/gallon. Why are we not paying $2.05?

Everyone has gotten excited about gas being below $3.00...but look at the numbers...we should be nearing $2.00!!!!

Educate everyone you know and come in contact with that $3.00 is no longer the goal...it's $2.00, which is where we should be today!!

O.k., here is something for EVERYONE to watch for in the coming week and a half!!!

On October 15th, 2007, Oil prices were (roughly) $90/barrel. We have now dropped below $90 (hopefully going much lower).

So, on October 15th, 2008, I'd like for you to take note (and i'll note it) what the price of a barrel of Oil is on that date, one year later.

Upon taking note of this, go to this website: http://www.fuelgaugereport.com/

You will notice on this site, it will list current average for a gallon of gas in this country, AND price per gallon 1 year ago!!

Notice the ridiculous difference! I ask you to wait until October 15th to make this as accurate as possible, so the naysayers can't cry we aren't comparing the same price per barrel of Oil.

You'll notice that gas prices were much lower a year ago, even though Oil is roughly the same!! :)

October 15th, we'll see!!

the top graph shows from 10/1/07 through 9/30/08. the last spot on the right is where we were on 9/30/08.

oil has continued to drop, and the gas prices should as well...only at a much, much slower pace unfortunately. this is still terribly unfair, plus we are WAY too high still...should be down around $2.75 or less right now.

as far as predicting the future...i can't do that. the graph only plots the actual situation, not projections for the future. the main reason for the drop in oil is simple, speculators have gotten out of the commodity (for the most part). more still to get out of course, but it's a start. some will say it is less consumption, but that is offset by other factors in the world supply right now.

if i were to project, look for Oil to drop as low as $65/barrel. gas should be nearing $2.00, but in reality, they will never make it there...they will continue ripping us off (just see the chart, they have no interest in being fair). they will talk about how gas has gone done, but ignore that Oil has gone down even more! I'd figure we will get no lower than $2.75/gallon.

You answered a previous question by stating that the national average on gasoline should be about $2.85. Now that prices are CREEPING down, should we be confident that what we see now is a blueprint for the future? Or, it that graph you shared with us a sign of GLOOM AND DOOM?

I do not that the dates on the graph are for July and August of this year and that crude is steadily going lower as we have been experiencing in real time, lately.

Well Cissi, let me first say that I don't believe either candidate!!!!

They are politicians, and they will both say whatever they need to in order to be elected! 98% of what the say and promise is complete and total CRAP!

With that said, I will try to find this article or a similar one...if anyone else finds it, please forward it to me, or post it.

Thanks Cissi!

I've been trying to post on this all week.

On Sunday the Indianapolis Star had and article entitle "Where They Stand: Refueling America" I have had trouble retrieving it from the archives of IndyDSar.com. It touches n both candidate views on oil drilling, electricity, global warming, price relief, cars and renewable energy.

What I am looking for is your comment on their positions on each of these issues. If you are able to retrieve this information, can you please comment. If not, let me know. It's just interesting enough for me to take the time to type in (I don't have a scanner).

If anyone else out there in SI land is able to retrieve or scan it it, please feel free to do so.

I agree that we should take care of our country, but we should also have an eye out to ensure that there is still a thriving country for our grandchildren and their grandchildren. With freedom comes much responsibility.

I applaud Cissi for saying the things that most people are afraid to say! I love America too! Nicely written!

I like my gasoline. I like my petroleum based products. I like my world as it is with the potential for progressive growth. And, I advocate a society that utilizes all it resources to the greatest degree, including gasoline.

I truly advocate choice.

A couple of things that people have to realize;
(1) When it comes to the vehicles we drive, we have choices. We can drive large. We can drive small. We can drive gas powered, wind powered, corn powered, or (I have even seen picture) water powered.
(2)There will be many gasoline powered cars on the road for many years to come. Just because there are the select few out there advocating a complete turnover to bio-fuels and other alternative fuel sources, that 442 or that Cornish will still run on gasoline. Right now, they can't make me go out an buy another car so that I will have to conform.

I don't like the fact that I am losing channels on my basic package every day because the government is mandating HD. I don't like the fact the they are outlawing my lightbulbs. And, that it will cost appx. $2500 to dispose of the mercury-laden halogen bulbs they will force us to use in the near future. Let me at least drive my gasoline powered car if I so choose. Just free us from the strong-hold of foreign oil and develop those resources we have right here. Usually when the government mandates things, it actually ends up costing us money even though they tell us that is will make life easier.

I can't afford it!

I don't think that the mating habit of the Alaskan Caribou, or the advent of global warming should be a factor in me getting work every day (Pease spare me the comments, that's just my opinion!). And, my grandfather taught me to take great pride in my country. He taught me that this is our America and we take care of ourselves!

Let's live the dream of the greatest generation and take care of ourselves the way they envisioned. After all, we are Americans! Don't let our grandfathers fight have been in vain. They loved their country and it should be in our best interest to continue hold America dear and not give it away.
