We want your help to promote Fall Travel in Indiana

Thanks for joining the Indiana Leaf Cam group. Our goal is to promote Fall Travel here in Indiana, and we need your help. Like many other organizations, we need to maximize our impact and want to reach out to all Smoosiers (members of Smaller Indiana) and ask for your help. Tourism is big business in Indiana, attracting more than 62 million visitors and generating more than $10 billion in economic impact each year. Indiana's tourism industry employs more 257,000 Hoosiers! Here's where you come in. We're looking for Smoosiers to start making noise online about Indiana. We want you to blog, tweet and share photos about your experiences, your favorite events and attractions, and everything you love about the fall in Indiana.

We've started the #LeafCam hashtag on Twitter and the LeafCam tag on Flickr. You can also blog about the Leaf Cam or join our Facebook Group and tell us about your travels in Indiana. Just be sure to link off to visitindiana.com or visitindiana.com/leafcam/

In order to win one of the prizes, simply link off to VisitIndiana.com or VisitIndiana.com/LeafCam/ on Twitter, Facebook your Smaller Indiana blog or a personal blog. Then post a link to that Tweet/Status/Blog in the contest discussion group below!

Each year, the Indiana Office of Tourism Development launches the Leaf Cam. This year, we've put webcams in 5 different locations throughout Indiana to let you know when the leaves are starting to change - that's the perfect time for a Fall Getaway!

This year's Leaf Cam locations are:

- Hilltop Cabins in Brown County (Nashville)
- French Lick Resort (French Lick)
- The Fort Golf Course (Indianapolis)
- Historic Corydon (Corydon)
- Spring Mill State Park (Mitchell)

In my determination, Spring Mill State Park (Mitchell) is the third most popular state park. (I'll let Brown County and Turkey Run duke it out for first and second.) Besides the wonderful nature center, hiking & biking trails, fishing pond, swimming pool, campground and inn, Spring Mill also offers caves, an 1832 pioneer village with working mill and the Virgil “Gus” Grissom Memorial, showcasing his NASA experience, to explore.

So, where do you grab lunch or dinner when you're in Nashville or visiting Brown County State Park in the fall? Here are two great stops I like. They're a little off the beaten path, but well worth the trip.

The Farmhouse Cafe & Tea Room serves up sumptuous salads, sandwiches, main entrees and desserts. Everything's fresh and wonderful. (Be sure to have tea.) The Farmhouse is located at The Flower and Herb Barn Nursery just north of Nashville.

The Story Inn (Yes, it's an inn, a restaurant, a country store and even a tavern) serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Reservations recommended for dinner. Story uses fresh locally-grown ingredients to creates it's contemporary Hoosier cuisine.

Today we took a pontoon boat out on Patoka Lake and enjoyed a 70 degree day with moderate sun. The Leaves are really Poppin!

We saw an Eagle in a tree and here is a pic to prove it. It is a common sight at Patoka Lake.

OK, maybe it is too hard to see to be proof enough...check this out!

The Patoka Lake Tour Boat was out and about. Contact www.PatokaLakeMarina.com for details.

The pictures DO NOT do the scenery justice.

When I want to see the brilliant leaf colors, I take a drive on one of our great scenic byways. Indiana now has 3 National Scenic Byways - Ohio River Scenic Byway, Historic National Road (U.S. 40) and, the newest, Indiana Historic Pathways. Pathways is made up of U.S. 150 (Vincennes to Jeffersonville) and U.S. 50 (Vincennes to Lawrenceburg). This byway connects the prehistoric past, pioneer exploration, stagecoach travel and modern highway travel. The trail originated as a travel route by massive Eastern American Bison herds that migrated from prairie lands in Illinois and Wisconsin areas to the salt licks of the Kentucky area. More historic information here. Besides the national routes, there are also two state byways - River Road Scenic Byways and Whitewater Canal Scenic Byway - to try out. All show off the scenic diversity Indiana has to offer.

I'm going to the Patoka Lake area at the end of this week for Fall Break. Taking the kids and meeting my sister and her kids. Hope the weather holds out!

Spent Sunday afternoon in Brown County [photos are posted on my FB profile]. Beautiful is an understatement. Indiana may not have a coast line, but we do have a tree line that even inspired T C Steel.

Brrr, it's chilly out there this morning, but what a glorious day! I was just out with my retriever Buffy. The sun is starting to creep over the horizon and a couple of planets are still sparkling. Is that Mars in the east? Anyway, the sun is just barley starting to hit the tops of the trees, and the maples are beginning to glow with that orange-gold that is so characteristic of the species. Today is going to be a good day for looking at the leaves here in Warren County.

The fall color in Tippecanoe County is wonderful right now! A walk along the Wabash Heritage Trail - A hiking trail running from Tppecanoe Battlefield Park in Battle Ground to Lafayette - West Lafayette. Start your adventure seeing the great oaks in Tippecanoe Battlefield that have seen incredible history over the years. There is also Ross Hills Park and Ross Camp - 200 acres mostly wooded rolling hills along the Wabash River valley. The weather should be outstanding the next few days!
