Making people and ideas findable

From FoxNews.com today, June 12, 2008 "WASHINGTON — A divided Supreme Court ruled Thursday that foreign terrorism suspects held at Guantanamo Bay have rights under the Constitution to challenge their detention in U.S. civilian courts.

The justices, in a 5-4 ruling, handed the Bush administration its third setback at the high court since 2004 over its treatment of prisoners being held indefinitely and without charges at the U.S. naval base in Cuba.

Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote the majority opinion and was joined by Justices John Paul Stevens, Stephen Breyer, David Souter and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Dissenting were Chief Justice John Roberts, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito."

So terrorists now have the same Constitutional rights that you and I do in US courts. In a time of war, people who are set on literally destroying the US now are protected under our Constitution.

I am appalled by this. I would love to hear other perspectives.

I'm quite appalled by this too. I really thought the Constitution was here to protect American citizens... not illegal aliens or terrorists who aren't citizens. Oh, silly me. I forgot we're not supposed to offend anyone so we need to make sure our Constitution is all-inclusive. BLECH!

Actually, the United States Constitution does offer protections in some instances to persons - and that is the precise term used in our Bill of RIghts - who are not citizens of the United States.

Many of the people held in Guantanamo and other sites all over the globe are not terrorists by any stretch of the imagination...at least not until we detain them without warrant, torture them until near death, sodomize them ... then put them back on the streets of Kabul.

They were ordinary citizens who were handed over to our troops by others wanting to make a bounty for their capture. Taxi drivers, butchers, bakers, candlestick makers...someone who pissed off their brother in law and was consequently pinched for a few hundred bucks.

And you have definitive proof of all of these horrors? What a deplorable country we live in where our troopers attack and molest the innocent. No wonder we're hated by those abroad and those within our own country.

Where in the world do you get your information? CNN? If you really believe this stuff, you should go live in Iran. And take Susan Sarrandon with you.
