Oil Crisis – More than just Gas

Do we only create gasoline and other fuels from oil? This oil crisis that we are experiencing involves more than just the gas we pump into our vehicles. Oil drives more of our economy than just fuel America’s cars, trucks and SUVs.

According to http://www.eia.doe.gov/kids/energyfacts/sources/non-renewable/oil.html, here’s the breakdown that shows what oil helps us produce:

Gasoline = 19.15%
Diesel = 9.21%
Heating Oil = 1.75%
Heavy Fuel Oil = 1.75%
Jet Fuel = 3.82%
LPG (liquefied petroleum gases) = 1.72%
Other products (see below) = 7.27%

According to another website (http://www.3k88.com/products.htm), “this is a list of some of the products made from oil. Nearly everything in our lives is made from oil, made by machinery and systems dependent on oil, and transported by oil as either gas or diesel fuel.”

Now if you listen to environmentalists, they want to dramatically reduce oil consumption if not do away with it altogether. Listen to the Presidential candidate, Obama. His focus on the oil crisis is firmly focused on oil-to-fuel issues. But if the current oil shortage continues, we will not only be paying more for a gallon of gas, but the prices of all of the above will be on the rise, too. We all winze at the idea of $5, $6, or $7/gallon gasoline. But we would be fine with the price increase for Aspirin? Antihistamines (during hay fever season)? Deodorants? Shampoo? Shoes? Toothpaste? Trash bags?

Finding new sources of oil is critical to the US economy – and it involves far more than just fuel. Environmentalists will always demonize vehicles. Liberals will always listen to them.

Conscientious, thoughtful voters must contact their Congressional representatives urging them to drill here and drill now. They also must encourage the development of alternative energy sources and make it easier for entrepreneurs to find new solutions for us. Oil is not just about fuel prices.

Here's a fascinating article that I think you should read. Once the economics of this "quote/unquote" crisis are examined, a different story appears altogether.
