Making people and ideas findable

So, since there hasn't been much discussion here yet, I thought I'd suggest everyone tell about his/her time at UIndy. Give your major(s), years attended/involved, favorite class/professor (if applicable), and any other bits you'd like to share.

I'll start:

I double-majored in Vocal Music and Commercial Art.
I attended from fall 1996 to spring 2000.
My favorite professors were: art, Earl Snellenberger; music, Kathy Hacker.

Most people thought I was crazy for taking on those two majors at the same time. I spent the majority of my time in CDFAC, because in addition to my class time, I was also the stage manager for the performance hall, which averaged about 20 hours a week. I really enjoyed my UIndy experience.

Here goes:

Communication Major (PR and corporate communications)
Started as Theater Major and switched sophomore year
Attended from 1999-2003
Favorite professors: The whole comm crew! (I still keep in touch and see most of them)
I was also in Crimson Express and Concert Choir, participated in several plays (mostly musicals), was a Greyhound Ambassador who gave campus tours and competed on the Speech Team (I was VERY busy!)

Loved every minute of it!!!

I had the unique opportunity to receive both my entry-level Physical Therapy degree in 1986 from U of I (just after the University transitioned the name from Indiana Central University), and my Doctor of Health Sciences degree in 2001. Additionally, I was a full time faculty member in the PT program from 1997 to 2003. I now have my own PT practice, but I have many friends at the University and many friends and former students practicing in the community.

Here is my skinny:

Graduate May 2007 with my MBA. Loved the program, loved the school, loved the profs, faculty and staff. I grew up about 3 minutes west of the campus and my first home was a rental 3 blocks south of campus. My favorite profs were the two that designed my concentration area.......(Organizational Leadership).......and I still consider them colleagues now. I plan to get involved with the alumni association, but have yet to make it to an event. Should we do a Smaller Indiana/Uindy get together near campsu soon???

Hi all. I'm new to SI and was excited to see a UIndy group!

I attended 2001-05.
Major: communications (emphasis: public relations)
Minor: marketing
Professors: I'm with Cara, we had an awesome crew in the COMM department!

I was a Greyhound cheerleader for one year, a student ambassador, an orientation assistant and the Business Manager for the student newspaper, The Reflector. I spent a lot of time in Sease Wing, where the COMM department was located at the time. It was also the classroom code on schedules that caused many students to wander around asking "WHERE is this place?!"

Hi Everyone!

My experience with the University dates back to 1984-86 -- it was Indiana Central then. I started in the fall of 84 as a history/poly sci major intent on heading to law school. By the end of the first semester, my passion for the arts had taken over and I became a theatre major. Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to finish my degree, but I loved the time I was able to spend there. It provided a lot of great opportunities and was a fantastic transition for a girl from a really small high school (big enough to get a feel for the real world and small enough to not scare the beejeebers outta ya). My favorite professors were Jim Ream (technical theatre) and Alice Fryman (not sure I spelled that right -- but she was Honors Lit).

The campus has changed soooooo much since then. Warren, Cravens, Good, Central (except I think it was actually the building that is now Cory Bretz -- based on the map I'm looking at), Krannert Memorial Library, Esch, Ransburg, Schwitzer, Lily, Nicoson & Ruth Lilly were the only buildings and none of them had the additions they have now. Smith Mall didn't exist. Otterbein ran between the Library and the rest of campus and "T-d" into a street in front of Central/Cory Bretz. Smith Mall didn't exist and the "U" shape formed by Lily, Esch and Schwitzer was a parking lot with a small grass area and a bell tower in the middle.

Wow -- thanks for tolerating the walk down memory lane! :)

Cory Bretz Hall used to be called North Hall. Central Hall is the next door east of Cory Bretz Hall.

Thanks, Bob! I couldn't remember for the life of me what the name used to be, but I knew it wasn't Cory Bretz. :)

This is my 25th year at the University of Indianapolis. From 1984 to 1997, I worked in the Admissions Office as an Admissions Counselor and Assistant Director of Admissions. Since 1997, I've worked in the School for Adult Learning as Key Advisor and then Director of Academic Support Services.

I became an alumni the hard way (and unexpectedly!) in 2000 when the Alumni Association graciously named me an Honorary Alumni of the University. I've received other forms of recognition in my lifetime, but I am MOST proud of this one.

So I've seen all the changes that Anita alluded to in her post. The university has undergone a remarkable transformation in the past two decades. It's a GREAT place to go to college.
