Thanks for the CINLUG invite. I am on the mailing list, but it is always difficult to make it down from Lafayette to Indy by 18:30 on a Wednesday.

Please accept my invitation to attend the Central Indiana Linux User's Group meetings. Visit www.CINLUG.org for more info.

The next meeting will be Wed Sept 3 at 6:30 at the Glendale Public Library. Topic: Virtualization (Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and Xen)

Let me know if you'll be there and I'll range an introduction of the SI Unix/Linux Group.

In answer to Jorge's question: I typically use Debian with the xfce desktop environment. Mostly because I like my installs a little lighter/faster even if that means that I have to configure a few things myself. Also because I love apt as a package manager. I have been known to use Ubuntu from time to time as well.

I'm a GUI-spoiled (Apple's and then Windows) guy and do not want to go back to the 80's with the Unix command line. However, I have decided that my next laptop will have Linux and OpenOffice; while less Microsoft 'stuff', the better. I briefly used a Linux GUI years ago, and lived through the Motif/OpenWave 'war' before that. So here is my question: what have your experiences --good/bad-- been at using 'PC' Linux? Which flavor(s) do you favor/recommend?

As of this posting 3 of the 5 members of this group share the name Dan. Very strange.
