Hey Steven,

In regards to learning programming languages, php and mysql would be a nice group to focus on. There are great books to learn from, for example the wrox books for php.

The technologies you mentioned all have the same general goal, to output dynamic content on the web. One is not more important than the other, but the concepts matter the most. Once you get the concepts down of how to build functionality, you will be able to jump from one technology to the next.

Hello all!

I went through a more traditional print / idea generation design process while at Herron for my Vis Comm degree. I had little chance for web, and the last real time I worked with web was around 2006. My present website was coded by me as well, but is not at all dynamic, relying on changing code on all pages to update one link, for example. With this experience, I have a request.

My request is: I'd like to know a present day order of operations when learning languages. Right now I have above average experience in HTML and CSS. I've been trying to keep track of trends and new languages and new ways to use existing languages (Javascript is an example of that).

The languages/applications I'd like to learn are in this order: Javascript, XML, PHP, MySQL, ASP, Flash, and then down the road—Flex and ColdFusion. Is there any specific order I should actually be learning these in, or are any more important than others?

My past experience tells me that Flash is not too good for websites as it breaks any meaningful SEO you might try. I hear that Javascript is good for menus and PHP could also do the same. Does this sound right or are there new shifts?

Thank you for any help!

Hey all. Need a little help. Willow Marketing is looking for a Web Development Intern/Coop. The pay isn't stellar and this is NOT a full-time position, but a project based position. That doesn't mean if the right person comes along and impresses us that we wouldn't consider it. We can promise you'll get loads of hands-on experience in a creative environment. You should be a detail orientated web application developer with a sense of creative vision. PHP experience a must, specifically using CodeIgniter. Also looking for LAMP knowledge and familiarity. Flash programming experience a is bonus. Plus:

-- Javascript DOM manipulate using jQuery and their plugins
-- Multimedia skills as well as familiarity with Video Applications
-- Social Network application linking and interaction familiarity
-- HTML/CSS fundamentals are required
-- Ability to work with a team and handle component development used within a larger structure
-- Speak English (geek speak OK, but not your only language) and have excellent communication skills
-- Interest in learning new technologies and principles that will further our development capabilities

If you're interested send a resume and a portfolio of work or past examples utilizing some of the requirements listed here. Send to bradgillum@willowmarketing.com.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
