What About Some Original Ideas, Innovation, and Change?

Steve, I guess my bottom line is that I think people get behind conversations a lot more than they do electronic conversations like here in Smaller Indiana. There's something about face time that h... Continue

Steve, Great points, as always. Since we're getting really specific to health care here, I need to first put out a disclaimer that I'm representing myself in this conversation and not my company. ... Continue

What About Some Original Ideas, Innovation, and Change?

Kristina, The healthcare issues are indicative of a 'thinking' problem. The entire world has changed around us, but our thinking hasn't changed with it. Because we think like good capitalists, we ... Continue

Two Sides of the Future

Society is advancing. There is no doubt that we are moving faster and faster into truly staggering changes. But with every increase in scientific or technological knowledge there is a constructive and destructive potential. We have run rather furiously at science and technology over the last 50 years and are only now starting to realize that many of the new discoveries and technologies we have espoused have really been out of control. Some of the more obvious examples of this dicotomy are nucle… Continue

Future Leadership

Rick Smyre, president of Communities of the Future, descirbes a new kind of leadership that is emerging. Rick is a former CEO and he has often shared with me how difficult it was for him to change his thinking and move away from traditional, top-down leadership approaches.

Take a look at this quote from the Communities of the Future website (leadership page) and visit the links below to get an idea of how Rick sees leaders…

Where are We Going?

I'm not convinced that there is much clarity on a Brand for Indiana of the Future. Not what industries will we be invovled in, but what will we be known for? What will people think when they think of Indiana? Today, in terms of how people in other regions or cities see Indiana, I think they see corn fields. But I don't beleive that statement is a bash on our capabilities, it is a reflection of our long-term vision.

You see, when people have a clear vision to move forward, and they orga…

Surprise, Surprise

As the paper, Futuring - Part I, explains, the world is in exponential change, volatility and complexity at the same time major disciplines of thought are converging and technology is becoming mind-boggling.

In a world where people graduate from college already two years behind fast-moving knowledge advance and technology, how will we cope by continuing to rely on these traditional institutions?

Well, futuring in th…

Bruce!

Really enjoyed your speech at PK Night! I'm an avid yet amateur thinker/reader about the singularity - especially vis-a-vis AI- as well. Looking forward to diving into your blog on here.

Cheers!

Bruce, great to meet you in person. I still can't believe you're a South Central grad!

Been back to Elizabeth lately? With all that Caesars money they paved the roads, built a golf course by the high school (that's the road to my house btw - Old Dam 43 Road), etc. They've completely destroyed the mythology of my youth as growing up in the country. Nobody's going to believe that for a second when they turn left at the country club to head down fresh blacktop to get to your house!

Just a quick note to let you know that I'm bringing a life sciences conference to town. I was hoping you might share this announcement with others who might find attending this event of interest.

It's called Documentation and Training Life Sciences and it takes place June 23-26, 2008 at the Union Station Crowne Plaza in Indianapolis. Smaller Indiana members qualify for a $300 discount off the price of attendance. Educators can get an even bigger discount.

I have a flyer I can send you via email that you can send to folks who might be interested. Let me know if you can help me spread the word locally.

Thanks in advance.
