The Customer is Last?

How important is a customer to your business? For the past 3 months I have visited a local Kroger (great salad bar selection) for lunch a few times a week. The first day I ate at their local café I soon noticed that the ice machine was not working.  I had to ask the staff to get me some ice from another location in the store. I might as well have asked them to donate a kidney. They were not happy with the request. Last week, I visited the same Kroger for lunch as I often do (again for the great…See More

Environment

We started a new group coaching class this week and one of the participants made an interesting observation.  In a nutshell, he indicated that he needed to be around people that made him better. In other words, he needed tochange his environment. Author Jim Rohn states that each of us is an “average of the 5 people we spend the most time with”. Think about that for a second. Who do you spend your time with?  Are they positive or negative? Do they lift you up or tear you down? Do they see…See More

The Rule

I have a “to do” list. It is related to my quarterly goals which are a subset of my 2012 objectives.

Like most, I get off track from time to time and wonder if I set the wrong goals.

Maybe.

However, when all is said and done, what is real reason that I set out to accomplish these daily to-do’s?

That is the question. In fact it may be the only question that matters.

Is my goal to have more checks on my “to-do” list than anyone else? Is it to make more… Continue

What is Your Anchor?

Have you ever had one of those moments where you ask yourself – “What exactly am I doing in my profession, personal life, etc?”

For some, it can be as dramatic as when Jerry Maguire torpedoed his career by sending out the “memo”. If you don’t know what I am talking about you absolutely need to rent the movie.

For others, it might be as subtle as dinner conversation with your wife where you wonder aloud, “Am I on the right… Continue

Priorities

On Tuesday evenings, I stay late at the office to make some progress on my book. (By the way, if a draft isn’t complete by June 30th I have committed to getting the name Josh Miles tattooed on my left bicep. It’s a long story that involves 2 drinks (I typically stop at 1) at a Christmas party.)

Every time I begin working on the book, I am completely committed to staying until at least… Continue

Great Show Today!

It was good for people like me who are just wingin' it! I know what I want to accomplish. And I know I have all of this to accomplish on a -0- budget, limited resources and limited education in all the areas I need to elevate me. So, I get bits and pieces from every resource that I know of to help me move forward. That does not always mean that I get the right advice or, as a novice, that I use it correctly. So far I have been blessed.

PJ was a dream come true! I never had a clue what Web 2.0 was. Again, I was just wingin' it. He helped a neophyte like me to understand some of the things I am doing and a lot of the things that my many brothers and sisters on SI have told me to do. He also help me to understand, most importantly, what I have to do.

Chris Spangle tried to get you and I together when he was still at the radio station. He had a great concept that he wanted to approach you about for a show between you and that could have been a learning experience for listeners.. Then he LEFT me!!!! I love Chris.

It is a chore building a business and community outreach program, especially when you re-enter the business world later in life and need to be re-educated. Smaller Indiana has been so instrumental in helping me understand the business aspect of what it is I wish to accomplish, and I have made some lasting friends along the way. The day Ben McCann gave me an impromptu telephone workshop, then helped to rebuilt my website on my ning, I cried! You just don't find people like that everywhere. I have Lou Begnel to thank for that union.

And, when you joined SI, I thought, "At least I know where to find him when I need him even if Chris never got us together!" You would think I know you personally already!!.

For all of this, I am blessed!

I think I walked past you at the Chocolate Blues Festival! I only have your SI picture to go by. All I know is that if I did, I had a brush with greatness!!!!
Basically, I have been using your show as a weekly workshop. the information that I have gotten from your show for free is equivalent to a college education. Using that analogy, some of your guest elevate me into studying for my Masters Degree. There was one occasion when you had Hazel Walker on and I took notes from start to finish, just as I did today.

I thank you for all your help. And, I thank all of the friends that I have made on Smaller Indiana. (so far!!!!)

Though Chris was never able to get us together in person, I thank you for being there for me anyway. ...and you didn't even know

So, this is what they call "business networking on the Internet"? I have held out for far too long.
