6th Grade Revisited - The Earthquake

My son's 6th grade homework that is done over the weekend usually helps me decide what to write about each week. The past couple of weeks we have been studying seismology. I had begun constructing my blog on this topic on Monday, then ironically on Tuesday devastation struck Haiti, so decided I to scrap what I had written. I did not want to make light of earthquakes, as with the case of poverty stricken Haiti, we have seen how ravaging this type natural disaster can be.

My son and I had fun lea… Continue

6th Grade Revisited - Keep It Down

Don’t know about your household, but when the winter weather arrives, it usually brings forth nasty maladies into ours. Our winter break from school was nice – because, well…no homework, but a nasty bugaboo took a stronghold on me and my son. We were lying around convalescing, when a highly intellectual conversation took place about a reputation killer: vomiting in school.

I shared with him, how I would have preferred every hair on my body plucked out one by one with tweezers than to have throw… Continue

6th Grade Revisited - The Sucker Punch!!

I had no idea when I began writing 6th grade revisited that my son would soon face his very own 6th grade bully. It happened this week during recess. Ah, recess where kids should have fun, run wild with reckless abandon. It should never be a combat zone. However on this day it was, just like it was for me so many times when I was in 6th grade. Except my son did something that I never did: he spoke up.

You know, I am not quite sure I want to call this person who sucker punched my son a bully – d… Continue

6th Grade Revisited - Pardon my turkey!

Dear President Obama,

I am the President/CEO of the Obama fan club which has four million members in the U.S. and we all voted for you, now if you eat me you will lose 4 million voters. Our fan club was also thinking about opening new businesses such as Wal-O’Bama, Bed Bath and Obama, Obama’s ‘R’Us and Obama Wild Wings. We will halt these plans if you do… Continue

6th Grade Revisited - Diary of a Wimpy Mom

My son told me I could not be a true 6th grader until I read at least one of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. After reading, I have to admit it is my new favorite book now! My son was shocked; he could not believe I loved it so much. He thought I would not be able to relate. In his mind only kids go through mishaps and adventures. According to him, grown-ups lead boring lives, just pushing paper all day at work. Recently, I started a new job so to prove him wrong; letting him know I also… Continue

Carol,
Thanks for adding me as a friend. I just joined 3 days ago and haven't had a chance to really jump in with both feet.
I loved your blog about 6th Grad revisited. It is a great idea that you are going through 6th grade again with your son. I know it will change you forever. Hope you pass 6th grade with flying colors!!
