What is your greatest strength?
I'm a teacher. Even though I teach high school Spanish, my personal love is sewing. I use my teaching skills to teach young and old students to sew. I make it enjoyable and inspiring and not so tedious that the experience kills the student's enthusiasm.
What are you working on?
I'm building membership for a high school sewing club at Morristown High School where I teach. Our mascot is the yellow jacket, so we call ourselves the Sewin' Bees. The Bees currently have 5 members. We lost our Home Economics department two years ago, and this helps to provide a useful skill, as well as a skill (much like music) which helps to stimulate a student's mind and aids in learning.
How big is your business?
Self-employed
What is your Job Title
Owner
What is your alma mater?
University of Indianapolis
Why join Smaller Indiana? What are you hoping to experience here ?
The Sewing Professionals Network of Indiana, which is now over 10 years old, strives to promote good business practices and networking specifically targeted toward businesses related to sewing. I have been a long time member of this group and we want to reach other sewing professionals who aren't aware of our existence. We also want non-sewers to know that our sewing services do exist and that we can assist professionals with their career or special occasion wardrobe needs I believe I can get our membership to join me in this venture and we can create a group within Smaller Indiana. Our membership includes those who have alteration businesses, costumers, sewing educators, liturgical sewing, machine embroidery, and wedding and other special occasion clothes. We meet each month in Carmel, IN, and have a current membership of 10 ladies.

This does take some getting used to. I am always surprised to see where my comments go & who ends up reading them.

Deb, I thought you were going to put the photos of our Nordstrom tour on the SPN page. When I couldn't find them posted there, I looked on your personal page and there they were!
I just talked with Ellen tonight and she sign on SI today. Donna said she will too, soon.

Terry, Thanks so very much! I am trying to avoid replacing the whole zipper. Now another client has brought me a little girls jacket with same problem!
I appreciate your help.

Hi Deborah, Can I ask a question regarding sewing repair????
I am doing some of this (on the side, as they say). I'm trying to avoid replacing a zipper on a very heavy jacket with double top stitching along the sides of the zipper. The zipper is fine, but the zipper glide or pull fell apart. Bought a zipper and took the "glide" or "pull" off and am trying to put it on the existing zipper teeth of the jacket. Read somewhere that I could cut the zipper fabric just above the stop, slide the "pull" onto the zipper teeth and re-stitch the zipper tape. Doesn't sound feasible to me. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Peggy

Hi Deborah, You've been tagged! I didn't know there was a Sewing Professionals Network; I don't sew well, but I'd love to learn more! Have a great day. ~Kristen H.

Deborah, I'll let you know asap regarding Feb 12. Would love to if I can.
Also, I do some home "re-decorating". Not a licensed decorator, but have done some for people.
Back to you soon.
