A bunch of us, including Stephanie Daily and Brian Huff, visited Oishi Sushi, on East 10th Street, just west of Shadeland, for lunch on Friday, 1/29/2010. The lunch menu offered 10-12 different rolls, three of which costs just $9.95 for lunch. Great…

There's always been lots of talk about great burgers. Let's get down and serious about it now. No restrictions, but lots of criteria. We need descriptions of WHY it's a great burger.

I "roux" the day that Papa changed his hours to lunch only. Eliminated me as a regular customer due to a direct conflict with my office hours. My office is just too far away to make a lunch run within the established time limits, as much as I'd like…

Sausage, chicken, but not burgers that I remember. Great nachos with huge portions.

I thought I had a burger at the Olde Point when I went there a year or two ago. That's strange.

Mr. Charles, Currently of Palm Beach- Comments

Mr. Charles, Currently of Palm Beach.

When the synopsis says that Mr. Charles was asked to leave New York City because he was “too gay” I was expecting the worst. Before the play started, I tweeted some friends that I expected it to be “raunchy.” As we were let in, Somewhere Over the Rainbow was playing on the sound system, it was soon followed by Liza Minelli's New York, New York at least I suspected it, Shazaam confirmed it. How stereotypical is this going to be? If there was a single stereot… Continue

The Tragical Ballad of Black Bonnet- Comments

The Tragical Ballad of Black Bonnet

The synopsis of this operetta led me to believe that this was going to be some kind of GLBT propaganda piece. Since that had been my initial perspective on the Festival there was no reason to think otherwise. A transgender person, living as a woman, falls in love with the lovely daughter of the landlord. Yeah, right, I'm ready for the crap.

Surprise! This production was thoroughly delightful in its staging and delivery. The musical background music was way t… Continue

7 (x1) Samurai- Comments

7 (x1) Samurai

The subtitle of the play was, “An epic tale. . .told by an idiot” May I assure you that David Gaines, if he is an idiot, has covered his tracks very well. His solo portrayal of all the characters in this classic tale was superb. My notes stated “Marcel Marceau meets Robin Williams” and while primarily mime, his use of many sound effects and few words enhanced the performance. His expressions and physical stunts kept the pace at an almost unachievable level for the entire show.

Another Classic of American Literature- Comments

Another Classic of American Literature

All of our party had somehow thought this show had a Western theme. It was readily apparent that it was not. Taking place in the seventy-fifth floor office of the CEO, it began with hopes of being a satirical slam on American capitalism. While there were tones and ironies which continued in this theme, it quickly fell apart just as it was beginning build.

Certainly there were funny lines, my favorite was “I've eaten chili smarter than you.” The dialog bet… Continue

For good burgers in Logansport, I'd have to go with a place called Mr. Happy Burger - it's been around since the 60's. Also Charbett Drive-In, should be opening soon for the summer!

Hi Dick,

Thanks for the invite to be friends. I was checking out your review of the Barringer's Burger and the Burger Quest Group. It would be fun to share this type of information with visitors to the Indianapolis area, then they'll have a story to tell about the BEST burger they had! Would you be interested in being published in the TRAVELHOST of Indianapolis Magazine describing your burger quest?

Dick,

Hello, We were wondering if you would like to bring the Burger Quest Group to Chef JJ's Back Yard one afternoon in November for one of your lunch quests. We could do a great spread on the EGG. It would be a great way to try something that you can't get from any other restaurant in Indianapolis! Let me know what you think.

Between Las Vegas, Indy Fringe, and Indy Magic Monthly, I've been doing a lot of traveling and performing. I'll try to make it to the next one. Just wait until I tell you the story of seeing Neil Patrick Harris standing next to David Blaine.

Hi Dick,
Yes, It was possible that you saw me there. I am in and out checking all of our areas on the State Fairgrounds! We have product at the Shoup Booth, the Indiana Pork Tents, FFA Pavilion, and our new Hogburgers booth at the Grand Stands. I'm hoping to make it to a Burger Quest event sometime. We were on QVC Sunday night in Philly and we packed all of the boxes to go out today. It is a crazy time of year for us. See you soon.
