Hello, It's great to have more resources like yourself that are willing to help business owners. Good legal advice can be hard to come by and extremely confusing.

Kenan,

Do you have any ideas about how to turn a service into intellectual property? The logo, etc.?

Absolutely. Let's follow up in a couple weeks, after you get settled in your new offices.

Kenan, I have added both TM and SM to my site in different locations. How well does common law for TM and SM hold up. I really don't think it would ever be an issue, but there are people out there just looking to try and cause a problem to make money. We registered with the state our name over a year ago. We have had our site up since August of 2008. I would think this would prove our time line. Should we still register with USPTO? Are you a coffee drinker? Hopefully we will get to meet some of the people in person we have meet in the network. We will bring coffee to share. Thanks again.

Kenan, thank you for the great advise. That is the one thing I knew I needed to investigate and get taken care of, I just hadn't gotten there yet. I will hurry and take care of that. One question, What does SM stand for. I haven't heard that.
We would like to protect both the logo and the name. We spent a lot of time and effort developing them.

Welcome to Smaller Indiana. It looks like you are making yourself right at home!

I think you will find this is a little different then most Social Networks. The community is active both on and off line. Check out some of our groups and events for information on what is going on around the state.
