Is your sleep pattern making you fat?

A recent study found that not getting enough sleep can lead to increased snacking. Researchers observed 11 men and women aged 34-49 for one month in a sleep lab. They had unlimited access to food (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks) as well as TV, internet and magazines. During the first 2 weeks of the study participants were allowed to sleep for 8½ hours each night. Then, for the remaining 2 weeks they were only allowed 5½ each night.

After getting only 5½ hours of sleep, participants consum… Continue

Are sugar subsititutes safe?

It depends on who you ask! The Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of aspartame, saccharin, and sucralose in food and drinks. The National Cancer Institute backs up the FDA on their stance. However, The Center for Science in the Public Interest doesn’t feel all of these are safe. This following statement is from CSPI:

“Lifelong consumption of aspartame probably increases the risk of cancer. People—especially young children—should not consume foods and beverages sweetened with aspa… Continue

Hi Kristen. Sorry i didn't get a chance to talk to you much this morning at the CASN BRB. I just wanted to touch base with you though. Since my July 1st layoff I've been looking for IT positions but I would really love to to find some non-tech opportunities that allow me to use more of my social and people skills instead of just answering support phone calls 8 hours a day. I've spent 30 years as a musician working a wide range of jobs to fill in the gaps, which has given me a broad range of transferrable skills that I would love to put to use. My main priorities right now are keeping my house and having health insurance for my family. If you have any leads or suggestions I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Kristen~ You know I just posted on my Face Book...we are faced w/ take out again tonight. (At least 3 times a week!) I am so busy right now that I am not making great dinners for my family...but I would love to! So I could really use some quick, easy, flavorful...and hopefully economical suggestions. Is that something you can provide one on one?

Hey Kristen!

I came across your page via Annie's and I read through your profile and saw that you are self-employed and work as a dietician. That has to be so much fun. I always thought about going into that when I was in school but I didn't know if I could handle all the classes. lol Anyways I am very new to this SI thing and it seems great and I like to reach out to all the self-employed people because I am one too! I recently became self-employed and I love a lot of aspects about it and there are also some things that are not so great. I read that you are trying to start your own place of business! That's great! What exactly do you do? I have a lot of clients and I enjoy helping small business owners out by giving those clients their referrels and keeping small business in america going. I'm kind of done with corporate america for the time being!
