I know all about that being laid off situation. Been there and done that after 25 years on the job. After other negative experiences such as a company's bankruptcy, anohter company's embezzlement, and a crooked judge,I am now self employed and work from my home. At least that is the starting point- very little overhead. I don't know if this company is a fit for you or not , but you can check it out. It has a lot of diversity. You will like the mission statement going by your comments. It has been around for 22 years, is BBB, has won various awards, and is very creditable. Check out www.ecoquest.biz and let we know what you think. You can contact me at hihosofa@hotmail.com
Kristian is great resource. He will be great to speak with.
FYI - Jordan Dillon, from Cystic Fibrosis, and Carrie Fulbright, from Gleaners, may be great contacts for non-profit projects, as well as, Molly Chavers, who does a great job at Indy Hub.
Have you joined the Non-Profit group...some good contacts, I reckon! :)
Do you have a portfolio online?
Sorry to hear about downsizing, but I'm sure you'll find the positive in the situation. In fact, that is how Three Hats Marketing got started. I had plans to start the company in 09, but I was part of a corporate layoff in early 08 and decided to start the business earlier than initially planned.
I am not necessarily suggesting you do the same (only you know what is right) but a recession is actually a great time to start a business. I'll be sure to keep my ears open for design positions, but to be honest, the design field is a bit competitive these days. I personally know of 2-3 designers looking for work.
We sub-out design work from time to time and would be willing to consider you if you are available. Email me a few examples of your work and your rates and we can talk further off line.
I noticed in a recent post, that you are looking for a job...are you looking for employment with a company or to build your own business?
