Teach the Next Generation to Love, Not Hit

R&B singer Chris Brown spoke to Larry King this week about his alleged beating of his former girlfriend, Rihanna, and the court’s decision in the case. The quote that jumped out at me when reading about it on CNN is, “No one taught us how to love.” With his “very shocked” mother by his side, Brown said he was sentenced to five years probation and six months of community labor.

The regretful Brown says he is still in love with Rihanna, and when pressed by King to explain the violent altercat… Continue

What Men and Women Want

In much of my research about marriage, a couple of words pop up frequently—love and respect. I recently heard a discussion that gave these concepts some fresh understanding. That is: Men primarily desire respect, and women primarily desire love. If a man doesn’t feel respected, it is difficult for him to provide love. If a woman doesn’t feel loved, it is difficult for her to provide respect. Here’s the rub ... See full article at… Continue

In Honor of Military Families this Fourth of July

As if it isn’t enough that soldiers risk their lives from our country, they also risk their marriages due to long separations and the stress that accompanies active military service. I’ve had requests from some service members for tips on keeping the home fires burning, as well as how to effectively reunite the family after a tour of duty. Thankfully, two in-depth interviews with exemplary military families helped shed some light on this topic. Any families enduring a long separation could use s… Continue

Who Will Make the First Move?

Continuing from our last post about not keeping score in your marriage, there is often an internal debate with husbands and wives that if she would only stop nagging him, he would fulfill her every need, and visa versa. Are you waiting for your spouse to change before you are willing to do your part? Then once you do your part, are you only willing to continue if you see your spouse adjust accordingly? Thanks for the advice re: getting our business success story in the news. I haven't seen quantifiable results from sharing anything we've been doing with local news outlets - despite spending a few thousand dollars on PR. Occasionally I get on TV and my mom notices. ;)

Maybe it's my inflated expectation: that they should want to cover local start-ups that are employing people, creating value and putting Indianapolis on the map. The only attention I crave is from customers.

Maybe you can change my luck? You're in the PR business, right?

Great post, Lori! I couldn't agree more...focus on what you are passionate about, surround yourself with positive influences/energy, and success will come. It's just a matter of encouraging people to believe in themselves and their passions.

If the little chain button is not working for the link I would suggest closing your browser and trying again. I would also test the hyperlink strategy by measuring visits to your page. If you have a lot of visits when you use a hyperlink you should keep using it. Some people are annoyed but most are not.
