Superbowl? Here??

I am so pumped about the Superbowl being in Indianapolis in 2012 and I don't know why. Because Indianapolis will undeniably be "on the map" now? Or because I'll figure out a way to take advantage of the press and the tourists? Otherwise, why do I really care? Because it'll generate dollars into our little economy? Hum.. what does this mean for me? What does this mean for Straight and Narrow? Perhaps I can have the official non alcoholic after party! Who knows... I'm excited though. And proud of… Continue

Connotations

So my coworker was telling me that "Straight and Narrow" (just the words) sounds religious and confining. It does not sound fun and insightful and out-of-the-box. Do you all agree and is that ok? To me, it's fine that it sounds confining because I actually want to be confined to the rules and teachings of Christ. I WANT to be on a straight and narrow path to heaven. But if the title of the organization is going to turn people away more than it draws them, I may re-consider. Thoughts?

It's Not Easy being the New Girl

Hi...my (stuttters)......name is Mali.

I'm new to Smaller Indiana but I'm raring to go. Add me as friend, let's start some interesting discussions, etc. I guess I'll start by getting a feel for what people thinking about Christian entertainment and the Indianapolis Christian community in general. Is it a bad thing that this market of people has no nightlife? Should they even want nightlife? Is it fair that bars and clubs are the hang-out spost but they only cater to drinkers and… Continue

Hey Malina! I am trying to create a program to assist present employees with professional development, but as an ongoing learning experience. I feel like there are programs out there, but not all are affordable - and I think creating a program and taking it to small businesses, it could create a domino affect and help out the productivity and efficiency of these organizations - which in turn would stimulate our depressing economic situation. Let me know what you think. Where are you located and what is your schedule like this week - maybe we can set up a meeting!

Thank you!

I think that the straight and narrow was on point, any body that was offended had their underwear on backwards. I think the title is very positive and not offensive at all.

Malina:

Just stumbled upon your group on Smaller Indiana and wanted to say that your organization name may be a bit offensive to some without context. Many straight Christians who are not biggots often display a bumper sticker on their vehicle that reads, "I'm straight, but not narrow" to imply that they are friendly toward gays, something many churches (and by extension, some of their members) are not. Because you appear to be promoting diversity and love of all human beings, I thought you might find it valuable to consider adding some text to your website and your Smaller Indiana group that tells folks whether you are supportive of gay members (i.e. not narrow) and whether or not gays are welcome. It might surprise you to find how many gay men and lesbian Christians there are in Indianapolis and that there are only a few organizations around to support them.

Just a thought.

I wish you much success and all the happiness you desire!

Scott
