I have been using Flex for over a year now and I am in love with it. I originally choose Flex because it is a cross-platform solution; it will run on a Mac, PC, or LINUX. Right now I am working on a large project that connects directly to a MySQL ...

Victoria, glad I could be of assistance. It is very important this time of year to remember the family as we all struggle to make ends meet as well.

Thanks for the ideas. I have 3 children ages 7,11, and 17, This is a timely article.

That would be nice. I wish I always did a great job (it probably sounds that way), but I do try. I think that is the important thing, that you try and let the kids know you are trying. They appreciate it.

As a former teacher, I appreciate your efforts. I have seen the impact such a dedicated and cognizant parent can make on children and the adults they grow to become. You apparently have a good partner in life as well. Even if you aren't teaching a...

Balancing Family and "the business"

As summer approaches every entrepreneur in the state with children faces the same familial issues: how do you balance a family and family activities with "the business?" We all like to think that our family comes first, but we know that things don't always work out that way.

During my 12 + years as an entrepreneur I have found some valuable ways to make sure that my family comes first or at least a close second and maybe some others will comment and lend their ideas as well. Heck it's summer an… Continue

My opinions on everything

Well not everything, but here goes (I'd also like to hear what others think as well on these or other subjects):

Stimulus: Big waste of money
Obama: Right image, wrong reactions, flying by the seat of his pants
Small Business: Big ideas, small pocketbooks
Daniels: Big ideas and even a few good ones
Bush: Thank God that is over
Cubs: Go cubs! Maybe next year?
Blue Moon: mmmmmmmm!
Fishing: The reason you work so hard all week
Beer: Goes well with fishing
SBDC: Lifesaver (business saver?)
Twilight… Continue

Fishing in Indiana

Well the one thing that I love to do that doesn't involve technology is fishing. I love to fish. It was the one thing that my father and I did together where we could relate. My dad's idea of a megabyte was a large bass.

Anyway I was just wondering what everyone else on SI liked to do besides dealing with technology?

What a glorious day - too bad it has to end

Spent time with my family today for the first time in about 2 weeks. Went fishing and then worked outside with the whole group. Was really a lot of fun. I'm not looking forward to Monday now :-)

I can't wait for more weather like this.

Is anyone else tired of 40 and rain?

OK so what does life teach us?

There are a few simple truths in life when you run your own business:

1) Nothing ever stays the same (so says my new friend Susan Baroncini-Moe and it is very true)
2) The bad times are only bad because you didn't do something right (or maybe you did nothing at all)
3) The people that you work with are important and useful (and if they are not you should let them go)
4) Your small business is not your life (it might feel that way sometimes, but it is not)
5) If you knew how to grow your small b… Continue

Hello Mark. My name is Ashley and I recently met you @a chamber meeting. I accompanied my husband, Randy a.k.a The Kreole Kid. I actually recognized you from Smaller Indiana and due to the fact we are in the same industry.

However, I would like to speak to you directly in regards to a business situation (not my business) that I may need assistance with and I feel that Visionary Web may be the right fit. If you could email me at proassets@mcremc.net that would be great or if you prefer I could call you directly. I may need to work w/someone on a project and I prefer to work w/someone local. Thanks.

Mark,

Naaa... not Ft. Wayne Snider. I went to Twin Lakes HS in Monticello. I even worked at Indiana Beach for a few years as a teenager. Fun stuff. See ya in a few weeks.

I love Indiana - mostly because I grew up here, first in South Bend and later Fort Wayne. I've been in Wabash for 13 years and love the small town atmosphere. I think Indiana is on the right track in its changes - moving from a manufacturing base to a more service/technology base. It is going to take a long time, but I think it will be worth it in the end.

Those changes are definitely good for my business and I welcome them - even here in Wabash. We do work all over the state, region and country and I travel a lot - but I still like coming home to my small town in Indiana.
