Who is buying new release DVDs at Blockbuster? Not me.

I'd like to take an informal poll. Does anyone take Blockbuster up on their $5 pre-pay offer for new release DVDs? I was in a Blockbuster store the other day and the guy behind the counter tried selling me on a $5 pre-pay for the upcoming release of the new Dark Knight DVD. I say he tried selling me because I wasn't buying. The $5 pre-pay supposedly guarantees you a copy of the DVD when it releases. The problem is the actual price of the DVD at Blockbuster is $19.99. I know this because I asked… Continue

Black Friday and Amazon are a match made in heaven

Yesterday, I wrote a blog post warning noobies that not every Black Friday deal is a good deal. After reading that blog post back a few times and realizing its somewhat negative tone, I felt compelled to do another blog post about Black Friday, but this time in a more positive light. That positive for me is Amazon.com. Black Friday, and the few days that follow, are some of the funnest days to shop online at Amazon.com. Here's why. For starters, Amazon.com can't disguise a bad deal as a good on… Continue

Beware, not all Black Friday deals are good deals

Everyone I talk to seems to be getting really excited about the upcoming deals at most major retailers this Friday (known as Black Friday). I am no exception to this excitement. But at the same time I can't deny that I become saddened when I think about how many people are going to get a bargain basement price on a technology gadget this Friday that in reality is a piece of junk. I'm not saying that everything with a bargain basement price is a piece of junk. What I am saying is that some of th… Continue

Are noobies ready for pie fights and pillow fights?

I signed up for a Facebook account many moons ago but initially I never did anything with it. But a few months ago, I decided to dive in and learn all that is Facebook. I stumbled a bit here and there but for the most part I finally understood the usefulness of Facebook. The usefulness I'm referring to is staying in touch with old friends you may have drifted apart from. Or for viewing a friend's pictures online from that party you both went to last weekend (remember when we used to ask someone… Continue

Does today's parenting responsibilities include keeping up with new technology?

I belong to the Dad's Club at my children's school as well as participate in a wonderful organization called All Pro Dad. As part of being an All Pro Dad, I subscribe to their email newsletter and always look forward to the great parenting advice they give me. One email newsletter in particular, sent this week, really caught my eye. Here's an excerpt from that email: In order to effectively parent your children, you need to keep up on the latest technology. If you haven't learned the art of… Continue
