An eye-opening experience!

No doubt, I’ve been tough on GM lately…and that doesn’t really put me in the minority. The mistakes that have been made in everything from the selection of the new Chairman of the company, to the product line, to the way in which dealers market the cars, have been points that I — and many other commentators and bloggers — have been writing and speaking about frequently here in these past few months.

However, thanks to Hare Chevrolet of Noblesville, I’ve had an eye opening experience.Continue

Observations on storms and smiles...

Yesterday afternoon when I left the house, the thunderstorm roaring through Indianapolis was so intense, I was frankly a bit scared as I was driving. The trees were bending over, lightning was all around, and the thunder was rock-concert-loud.

Yet, just a few moments later, I stopped for gas and Starbucks in complete sunshine.

Waylon Jennings and his wife, Jessi Colter, had a song they would sing together at their concerts called, “Storms Never Last.” I saw that first hand yester… Continue

GM...UAW...Obama...all seem to be missing the point...

It’s terrifying to me considering today’s announcements to realize that GM and Circuit City have aspects in common. And, unless the triumvirate of the Obama administration, GM management, and the UAW face these facts, then our nation’s largest car manufacturer will end up just like the electronics retailer – not only bankrupt, but out of business entirely.

Circuit City thought it could make it by having a better price on the same merchandise that both they and their competition were retailing.… Continue

Success...it's what we thought, and much more...

So many people have told me that I just HAD to read Malcolm Gladwell’s “Outliers” that I, frankly, put it off for a bit. I was both wanting to be certain it wasn’t just the “flavor of the month”…a fad book…and, I guess I was being a little contrarian, too. Well…I shouldn’t have waited. It is a book that everyone — and, I mean EVERYONE — should read.

You need to discover most of it for yourself…however, let me comment on a couple points from the book that you’ve probably already seen else… Continue

The Ultimate Audience Experience

It was the 14th or 15th time that I’ve been in the audience when my favorite band on the planet — the one and only Eagles – were on stage. First time I saw them, I was in high school, they had their first hit with “Take It Easy,” and they were the opening act for Yes…not exactly the prime venue for a new band playing country rock.

I followed them through “Desperado,” to “On The Border,” to “One of These Nights” — then watched as the entire world caught… Continue

Scott. We won that trip to Mexico at the silent auction. A little unfortunate timing, but things will pass. I'd like to take you up on your advise on insurance and any other travel ideas.

Hey Scott, Rainmakers is a terrific, very professional, creative and diverse group of people helping one another to find new business opportunities and refer one another etc. There is even a Rainmakers University that teaches on many different business topics. There are events all the time (before work, lunch hours and after work hours) to accommodate everyone's schedules and they are geared toward helping each other build their businesses or networking. I have not joined yet and have attended one meeting but got so inspired-and thats not an easy task sometimes unfortunately! Check out their website at www.gorainmakers.com.

Awesome! I heard you speak a while back in Naples at an Obsidian function and thought you did a great job! I would highly recommend you as a speaker or consult on business. Great to see you here. Maybe we'll see one another at a function. Are you a member of Rainmakers?
