David - good to hear from you! I like a lot of stuff in your post, especially the record label approach. This line really jumped out at me, though: "I would argue...that if one has lived a life worthy of a soundtrack, they probably can't fit it on…

I think a major effort in this endeavor isn't simply picking music that resonates with times in our lives, it is putting *thoughts* together about our experiences, and making *meaning* of those thoughts. This is the hard part. Once that is accomplis…

Todd, An internal retrospect through music limited to what you can fit into the confines of an album. I love the challenge and idea of it. As you said, you've tried on a few occasions to create such an album. I would argue (not to be confrontation…

I'd have to say Warren Haynes. I saw him four times on summer without even trying! First, he was touring with the Black Crowes, then I saw him playing with the Dead, then the Allman Bros, and finally with his own band Govt Mule, This guy plays non-s…

How did you hear about Smaller Indiana?
Co-worker
What is your greatest strength?
An openmindedness about much, from music on out.

My morning show cohort Paul Mendenhall says he thinks it's my down-to-earth demeanor, a vast knowledge of musical minutiae...plus my sensational backrubs.

The part AFTER THE ELLIPSIS is a joke, by the way. No unreasonable offers will be entertained. This is also true of the reasonable offers.
What are you working on?
On a weekly basis, putting together a soundtrack for breakfast, journaling, work, love, hope, help, the seasons and all the points in between.

Outside that, getting daily inspiration and insight from the Love of My Life, who in turn is motivating me to write the great American music novel or reference book. To some extent, many of the thoughts here are a dry run to that end.
How big is your business?
small company
What is your Job Title
Staffer
What is your Company Website?
http://wttsfm.com
What is your alma mater?
Indiana State University
Why join Smaller Indiana? What are you hoping to experience here ?
Among other things, I'm coming aboard to welcome people to the world of WTTS OVEREASY - from the people who know it, to the people who want to, to the people who don't yet!

There's a tendency for people in the creation business to opt for the PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN! template of doing things. I, on the other hand, prefer the Winston Churchill option, where some of the best stuff is created semi-publicly. To an extent, you're getting the inside view of the mindset that motivates this show, your host and its audience.

Oh, and us arty literate people gotta stick together. :)

Next wave of Studio 92 sessions afoot.

Savvy listeners of OverEasy will remember that I featured the new Pete Yorn album Back and Fourth a few weeks ago, another in a continuing series of great recordings from him. I'm very pleased that Pete will be one of three performers coming to Studio 92 in a week and change from this writing. A Thursday (October 22nd) performance by Los Lonely Boys launches that streak of Studio 92s, followed by Pete on Monday the 26th, and then Silversun Pickups the day after that (the 27th).

"The power that love has in all memories"

That's a line from "Wind in the Trees" - a song performed by Marti Jones on her album Used Guitars (1987).

I quite often know that a new song has sunk in when I find myself waking up with it on my mind. Not that I'm dreaming of it, necessarily, just that it seems to be wonderfully, instantaneously THERE when my eyes open, and then I've got to hear it for real. (Most recently, this has happened with the song "That It Moves" by Greg Laswell, on his album Three Flights from Alto NidoContinue

In Which Todd Has a Sentimental Journey.

Last night, I put on a favorite album from when I was 14, the Fixx's album Phantoms. I was one of those luckless bastards who heard then-vocalist Cy Curnin and drummer Adam Woods doing an interview with an MTV personality live on the radio, who tried to simultaneously call in with a question and win a copy of the cassette, but couldn't get through. And then twenty-odd years later, Paul Mendenhall and I interview Cy Curnin on the air. Strange world. Incidentally, Cy's a helluva guy… Continue

In Which Todd Takes His Cue from Robert Fulghum...

...that's right, the All I Really Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten guy.

In the process of moving my stereo equipment and various 45s, 33s, tapes and CDs to my true love's house, I've had the chance to get reacquainted with a few old friends, many comfortably in the OverEasy universe, and some less so. While reexploring these songs and albums, she and I have been pulling together a common songbook for the two of us, conjuring up something that's not just mine, or hers, but… Continue

OVEREASY, the Nuts and Bolts, or What Van Morrison Calls "the Process" - mostly.

And by mostly, I mean some of it. A man's gotta keep some secrets. :)

The prep work for Sunday's show usually starts at 1 minute after 11am on Sunday. When OverEasy's finished for the day, I'm already thinking about what I'd missed, what I'd do differently, next week's feature album, requests that there wasn't time to get onto the air, you name it. If there are any regrets about what didn't get on, now's the time. If I botched a transition of some type, this is when the "kick me hard" si… Continue

No thanks needed. Wtts has occassionally been my fifth element (other than earth, fire water and cold milk). Taking it to Florida, or the ends of the earth, should I have a wireless connection, will keep me in zen happiness...

At least from 9-12 noon, EST.
