OBAMA SELLOUT

Anger! Shock! Dismay! Rage!Pick a word in any of those categories and it is how I feel hearing Mr. Obama capped off his five day holiday in South America by announcing a sweetheart oil drilling deal for Petrobras, the Brazilian national oil company.American tax dollars - two-billion of those hard earned dollars - will be loaned to Petrobras by the American Import-Export Bank to help finance a floating oil drilling and storage rig in the Gulf of Mexico. A SAD FAREWELL

A friend emailed me of the passing of Pam Murphy. Not remarkable if you consider she was 90.What is remarkable is who she was and how so few know of her or remember her today. A Los Angeles Times columnist did, reminding us of who she was and to whom she was married.Pam Murphy was the widow of Audie Murphy, a so-so actor who died tragically in a plane crash in 1971. He was just 45.Less known and certainly forgotten in today's Hollywood, Murphy was the most decorated soldier in World War II. He…See More

FOR THOSE FOR WHOM WE STAND

It was a humid, mid-summer evening. World War II has ended two years earlier. But the war between the coal miners of West Virginia and the mine operators seemed never to resolve itself.Aunt Maggie pushed the creaking porch swing back and forth with her stout legs, cradling me next to her, as the sun took its leave behind the tall hills, draping Grantown in evening shadows.Along with the blinking beams of lightning bugs, we could see the torch lights glowing brighter in the descending darkness,…See More

SOLVING THE GULF COAST CRISIS?

The merciful thing about President Obama's Oval Office speech Tuesday night...it was short. It was filled with the usual platitudes but sadly, minus any meaningful plan. So America's Riviera will continue to be despoiled by oil. That oil should never have reached the fragile Louisiana marshes. And never the pristine beaches that wrap America's southeastern border in a sandy ribbon.Obama could have accepted the help extended immediately after the oil rig explosion by 17 countries, including…See More

AS LOUISIANA LANGUISHES

Thick, sticky oil is now washing through the reeds of Louisiana's ecological sensitive gulf marshes. As Tony Hayward, CEO of BP, observed the invading oil yesterday, Hayward admitted he may have underestimated the damage from the oil still gushing from a h*** in a BP well 5,000 feet below the Gulf of Mexico surface.Yes, Mr. Hayward, you did...way underestimated the danger and damage. What is the federal government doing to stem the oil now threatening destruction to this fragile ecological prize…See More

Welcome to Smaller Indiana. I think you will find this is a little different then most Social Networks. The community is active both on and off line. Check out some of our groups and events for information on what is going on around the state.

A few tips as you get started:

This is a place to make personal connections so please add a photo. It is our custom to use personal photos in our profiles not commercial images or logos because we like to see the people with whom we are talking

We love interesting conversations in the main blog, so please use that section, for questions, thought provoking ideas and interesting observations. The forums work best for business promotions, job hunting, employee finding, and event promotion. You can also list events in our calendar section.

Make friends, reach out to people you know, and introduce yourself to people you don’t! I look forward to reading your posts, and perhaps meeting you at one of our many events around town!

A few things to consider before joining Smaller Indiana:
1. Please use your real name (first and last) when you sign up, or we cannot open your account

2. Please do not use logos or commercial images for your profile photo

3. Events should be posted in the events calendar

4. You can post pretty much anything you want on your own personal page (self promotion, etc), and you can change the style of your personal profile page to reflect your corporate identification if you so choose.

5. Please keep all comments civil and polite. It's OK to feel strongly about a subject, and it's OK to be critical of ideas, but please refrain from personal attacks of any kind.

If you witness or experience any issues, please contact admin@smallerindiana.com and we will look into the matter.

6. "Blatant self-promotion" is discouraged on SI, and "spam" is not welcome. Please be considerate of your fellow members.

7. Display ads (graphic banners designed to promote your business) can only live on your own profile page, unless you are an approved sponsor of Sponsor of Smaller Indiana.
