Does anyone know of a doctor practicing in Indianapolis that actually cares about his or her patients? If so, please give me the name...we need some help...

Janneane Consumption

With our economy in the throes, the green movement growing chic, and theories-galore about healthy diets - it's hard to escape Consumption. Even Wall-E, Pixar's new hit, examines future effects of our consumption through the lens of Buy n' Large. This fictitious store's "lulling calls to consumption help to soften and fatten the human race (you should see these blobs) and separate them from the natural world," says New York Magazine's David Edelstein in his… Continue

Ken Moore Trouble Brewing at the Starbucks “Office”

Is your “chain of offices” closing? Yep, we all do it – use Starbucks locations for business meetings. Employees at 600 company-owned Starbucks stores will need to update their resumes and search for new jobs in the next year due to closings, but Starbucks management isn’t publishing a list of targeted locations. Reports say that 70 percent of the stores being closed were opened after January 1, 2006. There are 110 Starbucks locations between Kokomo and Bloomington with the majority of them be… Continue

Kyle Lacy Hello Addictive Personality! Nice To Meet You. My SI Addiction.

Hello, my name is Kyle Lacy and I am a SI addict. Something might be wrong with me. I'm sitting here. Right here on my porch. I am tapping away at my laptop while trying to comment on blog postings and enthusiastically welcome new Smoosiers to the wonderful world of SI. In a matter of seconds I realize three things: 1. It is approaching 3 am. 2. My neighbors are still setting off fireworks. I find myself wishing (regretfully, mind you) that they would burn their fingers and stop setting off b… Continue

Pat Coyle I confess, I don't know html

I need help. How do I wrap text around an image? I can paste an image into a text box, and I can add text above and below, but sometimes I want to place the image within or adjacent to the text. It's frustrating to have the main page of our site look so amateurish...Take a look at the main page of SI today and you'll see what I mean. (fixed it, thanks Brett) Can someone give me a quick lesson to teach me this one skill? Continue

Hazel We don't always get to say "Goodbye"

We don't always get the chance to say good bye to the people we love. We live our lives day to day, busy, always busy. In the back of our minds we think things like, I should call my brother, see how things are going. Then we put it off because life keeps coming at us, and after all, he is always there. How many times have you had a friend or family member enter your thoughts like a small whisp of smoke? You just pass it by, forget about it, think that you will do something about it later. Only… Continue

Patric Welch What do Firefox, me and 8,002,529 other people have in common?

I was excited when I read this today:

Thanks to the support of the always amazing Mozilla community, we now hold a Guinness World Record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours. From 18:16 UTC on June 17, 2008 to 18:16 UTC on June 18, 2008, 8,002,530 people downloaded Firefox 3 and are now enjoying a safer, smarter and better Web.

Why was I excited? Because I'm one of the 8,002,530 people who downloaded Firefox 3 which means...…

Marla Ruth Saying "hello" to strangers

Blog entry #1 My life as a modern-day hermit: For years, I would go to work, go to the gym or the grocery store, and then go home. On weekends, I usually only left the house to go to the gym or the grocery store. At work, I had such a high level of interaction with co-workers, clients, and salespeople, that at the end of the day, I no longer had the desire to speak to anyone but my husband. I realize that having a job, work-friends, and a spouse isn’t very hermit-like. After all, I have to p… Continue

Don Schindler Siteless Web Presence Part Two or why not be in all places at once?

So how do you get a siteless web presence? Your website is one place on the web. One place that Google can direct traffic. When a person does a search for your site then you'll hopefully pop up. If you have the right kind of URL, Title Tags, Meta Tags, and enough relevant content about you on the home page. Now I'm not saying you need to talk about yourself a lot - just the right keywords. And I'm never into talking about myself too much - yo… Continue

RJ Howard Indianapolis Magazines

I am thinking about starting a new magazine here in Indy and currently trying to sort though all the "lifestyle" publications we currently have. We all know and love Indianapolis Monthly, and Indianapolis Women magazine, and Nuvo and Indy.com certainly have their followings as well. Patric Welch Will the Verizon Wireless VZ Navigator replace my Garmin Nuvi 660?

I've been using a free 30 day trial of the Verizon Wireless VZ Navigator application on my Env2 mobile phone for a few weeks now. That's enough time for me to form an opinion although my opinion fluctuated over the course of the 30 days.

David Grigsby Ear Pollution

I watch the news. The more I watch it, the more I wonder why I watch it. If country music can make a man drink beer, then one half-hour segment of national news from any of the big three can make a man go through a bottle of scotch with a beer chaser. I understand that not all of the news is going to be good, but when I hear a national broadcaster apologize for the news BEFORE he even gives it (Stone Phillips on NBC Nightly News last week before giving the daily Dow Jones and S&P numbers) I… Continue

Chris Reed How do small businesses (less than 30 employees) protect their data?

Hello everyone. I am new to smaller Indiana. So bare with me as I do this my first post. I am interested in learning how/what small business owners do to protect their computer files from things like acts of God (tornado, fire etc) Acts of violence (theft, disgruntled employees, etc) Acts of stupidty (disgruntled employees, failed computer hardware, etc). Don Schindler Siteless Web Presence Part One or why not be in all places at once?

Last week I spoke of a siteless web presence. And what I meant by that comment was that you need to stop thinking of your website as a destination stop and more of aggregator of all your web content. Pretty simple, huh? But first things first. Your website should be a living breathing thing on the web. If you don’t know how to update your site - or if you need your web guy to do it then you need a new website. One with a CMS (content management system) behind it. Updates should be frequent and… Continue

Technology is amazing. So is medicine. We've come incredibly far in providing comfort, security, and ease-of-life in so many ways. It's rare to turn on the TV or radio and not hear a commercial touting the benefits of the latest pharmaceutical wonder.
