Coquettish, classy, and the girl next door all rolled into one,Idina Menzel graced the stage with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra at The Hilbert Circle Theatre,Indianapolis. Noted by the excitement in the air, and the sold-out status, the night looked to be a great one.… Continue

Gotta Go: National Maple Syrup Festival

This morning found me traveling south for almost two hours to judge the Sweet Victo ry Challenge at Burton's Maplewood Farm. A nice, leisurely drive through small towns and winding roads. The sky was happy to be back…

Gotta Go: Food Review Seasons 52

When you write a column and blog, you are offered numerous opportunities not given to just anyone. Case in point: I received an invitation to a private dinner to taste-test the offerings at about-to-open-in-Indy, Seasons 52 restaurant. Situated in front of the Fashion Mall at Keystone, the Darden restaurant, a Florida-based chain, takes mid-level dining to a new…

Gotta Go: Food Review Jockamo

When asked, I tell people I am a restaurant critic, not a food critic. The difference? My review covers more than food, by rating on the traditional 1-5 stars in six separate categories: Appearance, Menu, Service, Product, Style and Website.

Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza is well known in historic Irvington. Opening a second location… Continue

Gotta Go: True Brew by Rita T. Kohn

"I drink wine," I said politely, tilting my stemmed glass toward her, in response to her query as to why I don't write about beer in my column.

"You just…

Gotta Go: Long Beach Peninsula, WA

There’s a beauty that comes with youth. Carefree and playful, unmarred by life’s experiences: The summer beauty. Another beauty grows from those experiences of life. The inner beauty of….winter.
Just as with people, a landscape or town can bring forth an unconventional beauty from within, during its later seasons.
This 28-mile…

ISO: Liza Minnelli

Some people go through life, much as they come into it...quietly, without fanfare; leaving the same way. Others burst into the world with an inner pizzazz and inability to keep their excitement and zest for life inside. Liza Minnelli is a glamorous ball of energy willing to share her love of life, her flaws and…

Resolutions 2011 a.k.a. The Gotta Go List 2011

Resolutions, goals, bucket lists…whatever term you use, every year we set up our obligatory to-do list annually. Perhaps we do this in hopes of ridding ourselves of bad habits, trying a fresh start in our lives or attempting to reach the next level in our careers.

As is my custom, I take stock of which items I can check off the previous… Continue

Spotlight PLayers: It's a Wonderful Life! A Live Radio Play

As I've mentioned before, the offerings in Indy this holiday season seem to have more oomph and pizzazz.

Each has impressed me with the extra spirit and effort to take it up a notch. This weekend I found a traditional Christmas story offered without flying creatures, choirs or sequins and, instead, shines in its simplicity.

Spotlight Players, a community theater 11 years strong, is located in Beech Grove, on the south side of Indy, appropriately enough…
