Bill Bean Because Enough Hasn't Been Said About Health Care

Every time I come across good thinking it reignites the frustration. How come the smart people are not representing us? It's unfortunate that, for the most part, only tools and salesmen get elected. Blog post excerpt from Are We Really All Healthcare Collectivists at the FEE blog. In fact they did. Nearly every aspect of medicine and health insurance that the politicians say needs fixing is the result of poContinue

Bill Bean Jousting Windmills?

Maybe he's jousting windmills but Kudos to local freedom advocate Sean Shepard. Glad to see the Star talking to someone other than just D's and R's. In the article, he's talking about dialing back the power of federal government. Bush and Obama are both going to get credited with growing the power of the federal government more than any other two presidents before them. I hope are children will know enough to… Continue

Bill Bean Frog In The Kettle Thing

Slowly turn up the heat on the frog in the kettle and it won't know until it's too late that it's frog soup. We know the principle. Or do we? I was reading in the newspaper (how anachronistic of me) that some of our "progressive" Senators have introduced a new bill that would fine people who refuse to buy affordable medical coverage. Sounds reasonable. Pfft! This is… Continue

Bill Bean Jay Leno on Government Stimulus

via The Liberator Online, a Libertarian newsletter "The country of China is going to be doing a Broadway-style play based on Karl Marx's book on communism. A play based on communism. You know, that's where capitalism has been replaced by the government taking over control of all private industries. Or as we call in this country, 'a stimulus package.'" -- Jay Leno, The Tonight Show, March 24. Continue

Kelli B Schmith A Mishmash of Little Known Websites (That You Help Fund)

On a quest to understand how grant money is utilized, I journeyed through cyberspace to look at the programs that are funded by tax payer dollars. Here are some of my obscure discoveries... Continue

Gus Pearcy Who should preserve our heritage?

Recently, I've been pondering the responsibilities of government. Of course, everything is a matter of choices, but now a local government is taking a poll to find out if taxpayers want them to spend money to save an old barn representative of the culture of the area. The Town of Avon is polling residents to see if they should spend $25,000 to $50,000 to save an old horse barn that sits in Avon Town Hall Park. The barn is estimated between 30 and 50 years old. It is in need of some roof repair… Continue

Bill Bean BMV AOK

Thanks to the guy at the bank I discovered that my driver's license expired today. Normally, I don't like to spend my Saturday mornings at the BMV. That's second only to being in Wal Mart on Dec. 26. For the most part I'm able to take care of all my renewals online and avoid going inside the branch. I wasn't going to have any better day to do it, and I couldn't upload my favorite avatar online for my license picture,so I decided to head on down to my local branch (Michigan Rd in NW Indy). As I… Continue

Jake Stiles SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!

It is true…the government is giving away money - but only to what they consider first time home buyers. The qualifications are really pretty clear. Here’s the skinny: You have to be a first timer home buyer. What is a first time home buyer (you would think it’s pretty self explanatory…but it’s NOT!!!) A first time home buyer in the government’s eyes is someone who HAS NOT owned principal residence in the past 3 years or a home at all. That means you could’ve owned a in the past, own a vacation… Continue

Lori Lowe Is the Government Stimulating Your Relationship?

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services is funding a new campaign aimed to promote the benefits of marriage to young adults. Benefits being touted include better health, greater wealth and increased happiness for those who marry, and improved wellbeing for their children. While they aren’t telling anyone to run out and get married, the campaign’s goal is to encourage individuals in their 20s not to underestimate the benefits of marriage. Do you think the campaign is a good investment… Continue

Anthony Ware Economic Crisis and Job Creation

Typically, I use this business blogging forum to discuss corporate and NGO related topics. I wanted to take a moment to discuss something going right with the U.S. government. With all of the conversation surrounding lost jobs, one governmental agency is doing its part to help. That agency is the FBI. In two articles this week (CNNMoney.com and… Continue

Chris Baggott What Gene Upshaw & the NFL can teach our new president

I love the NFL. Everyone should agree that it's the premier professional sports league...and the reason for that is parity. Now in Government a lot of people are going to think that anyone who even discusses policy designed to bring on parity is a (gulp) socialist..... The rol… Continue

Grant Z Price Big Oil gets attacked by America for Profits... Big Health Care Cowers and Hides

After watching the debates last night, I began to really fear that "Big Health Care" is going to be the next 'bad guy' after Big Oil has its time in the spot light. If you'll remember from the 80s and as far back as the depression, Big Tobacco (Philip Morris and RJR Nabisco, Trillion Dollar Lawsuit), Big Steel (US Steel in bankrupts), Big Industry (AFL CIO vs. manufacturing) and even Big Retail (WalMart vs. Mom and pop), the popular conscience has always had a sublingual bias against the 'big'… Continue

Erik Deckers Rainbow Conspiracy Lady Strikes!

There are days when people just make me feel smarter. Today was one of those days. I found the Rainbow Conspiracy Lady's video on YouTube. As far as I can tell, this is a real video from a real person who believes that the government is behind all the ground-level rainbows in the past 20 years. The video is of a rainbow created in the fine mist of a lawn sprinkler, and she's convinced that there's something unnatural in the water -- something sinister and evil placed there by the government --… Continue

Douglas Karr Is the UK taking the lead on Government use of Tech?

Great post today on Programmable Web: UK Government Moves Forward with Data Sharing, APIs, and Mashup Contest. Federal, state and regional government here in the US is so used to feeding off of Taxpayer money that they totally ignore the resources of volunteers at their disposal. Open Source is proving to be an effective means of driving great products AND commerce to… Continue

Scott Abel US Federal Government Mismanaging Electronic Records, Watchdog Group Says

Based on months of research and the results of an on-line survey, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has released a report entitled Record Chaos: The Deplorable State of Electronic Record Keeping in the Federal Government which concludes that the U.S. federal government is severely mismanaging its electronic records.
