As the performers are preparing for their final show, and Smoosiers, along with other Indy residents take their seats for the last time this season the inevitable question is what's next for SI?
Without any formal data it appears we have had a positive impact on Fringe - Their numbers are up, and performances, even mid week were full. Now we can't take all the credit, but I know SI members were out in force.
And Fringe had a positive impact on SI. We have added about 100 members in the last we…

Confessions of a Fringe Technician is going to be performed in its entirety on
Saturday at 1:30pm
and
Sunday at 9:00pm
by Jason Kruger and Andy Brynildson.
This is a slight change from the normal lineup that included two other actors.
I would tell you more, but the rumour mills will be running at full speed as soon as this is posted and read.
I am not sure if this will work.
I do know that it will be the most high energy show I have ever been a part of.
I am thinking that we will be using the…

Last night a few of my friends came with me to see Squashamole at Comedy Sportz. This was not my favorite show of the season, but it was interesting. A little preachy, with a focus on opening a conversation about local, organic, green products, it is part play, part audience improv.
That's where the lots of friends coming along would help. The audience was a bit sparse, it was after all 6:00 on a Wednesday night, and the show really needs a full crowd. It works best if there are lots of brave s…

Last night's show was fun in the fact that I realized I will never be a very good Writer, Director or Actor.
Now, hear me out:
I might not be very good, but I WILL have fun doing it. That part, I am never ever going to stop.
Not in a million bajillion years.
I am not sure who derailed the show last night, but the fact that it has happened with ever show I have performed here in Indy, does not bode well.
Audience numbers for my show have been dismal to say the least.
Last night, we had 9 paying…

I was waiting outside the Theatre on the Square for the "Assholes & Aureoles" show to start when Phil van Hest of Phil the Void walked by. I had seen him several times around Mass Ave, but didn't know who he was, so I introduced myself to him.
"Have you been to my show yet?" Phil asked.
"No, I haven't had a chance. I won't be able to go," I said.…

I visited the Indy Fringe Festival for the first time last night, to see Andrea Merlyn at the Phoenix Theatre. Andrea Merlyn, the “Queen of Magic,” dazzled us lucky Fringe-goers with her wit, outfits, and magic tricks.
The show opened with an appearance from Madame Esmerelda Fallendo, Gypsy Conjurer, who, besides performing the impressive act of telling the future, demonstrated that fearsome instrument of French revolutionary fame, Le Guillotine. Andrea’s lovely assistant, Fez, wafted bubbles o…

Sitting in the restaurant waiting for your date, he's late, do you leave or do you keep waiting. Suddenly he rushes to your table with a 100 excuses. Oh we have all experienced the "Adventures in Mating" some of us more recently than others.
Miranda is looking for a mate, and she i…

I had fun tonight at my 6th show of the Fringe season. The magicians I sat with had fun tonight. The other Fringe actors I sat with had fun tonight. Taylor Martin had fun tonight. And what makes this last comment
amazing magical is that after the revealing light at the beginning of the
last show (you'll have to read the blog on the last show) a trick went bad tonight but yet Andrea picked back up…

Aside from my lax attitude towards blogging, and doing anything to help furthur the life that I want for myself, I think I am a bit of a go-getter.
I do silly things to help promote the silly things I do. Performance, writing, Laundry, Whatever. I am a whore for the smash and grab marketing.
For example, just the other day, I donned the infamous Panther Suit that I secretly borrowed (stole) from Dustin. It was about a hundred degrees outside, and I was walking down the street with Kruger playing…

I arrive at the American Cabaret Theatre early, here on a Sunday evening to review Moved - The Process of an Artist, an iNDYFRINGE presentation. I open the program, which describes the production so;
"Moved is about sharing an artist's journey. Dancers, musicians, and visual artists have collaborated to exhibit the power we each hold by willingly moving into, around and beyond the talents we possess".
Reading carefully, I try to pre-meditate my experience. From inside t…

On Saturday evening I attended the 7:30pm performance of “Confessions of a Fringe Technician” at American Cabaret Theatre at the
2008 Indy Fringe Festival.. The story is essentially a play within a play centered around the experiences of a Fringe Technician and the actors trying to get a show together. It starts with three of the actors warming up on the stage while Te…

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, The Great Gondos grace the Indianapolis’ stage delivered one of the most bizarre, unique shows seen in ages.
With entertainment that begins the moment you hand the attendant your ticket, these two natural performers make each moment a seamless variety act, or as they called it, “a circus and sideshow”.
The on stage characters that The Great Gondos have created take ordinary tricks like juggling, plate spinning, and body contortion, and turn them extraordinary…

The Improvoeducomedrama Squashamole! is worth seeing more than once -- no two performances are alike. You'll laugh, you'll learn, you'll feel, and maybe you'll participate! Vaguely Canadian (you can BARELY catch the accent, really!), six brilliant improv artists have put together a short skit based on modern day environmental issues and concerns. Issues most of us encounter everyday: what does "local" really mean? How much is TOO much to pay for organic produce? Are the products I'm using genuin…

Saturday afternoon my daughter, Sarah, and I went to see “Stinky Flowers and the Bad Banana.” I selected this show for three reasons: 1) Sarah is 13 yrs old which ruled out a few Fringe offerings right off the bat, 2) it happened to be showing during a break in Sarah’s busy soc…

Like with my review of
Good Grief, Sidney there were bits to like and bits not to like in
The Babbling Banshee. I like to get the bits not to like out of the way first because they're not worth dwelling on.
The IndyFringe site warns that this play contains some Irish slang. It's not the slang that's the problem, it's the Irish br…

Lorraine and I spent about 12 hours at the Fringe Festival on Saturday which gave us plenty of time to see, hear, taste and experience the annual Mass Ave event. We saw 5 plays, 2 music acts, 1 street performer, 1 Indian dancer (or should I say, dancer from India),
Erik Deckers and many, many other friends. We ate at
Yats,…

Initially my plan was to enjoy the outdoors between my viewings of
Good Grief, Sidney and
The Babbling Banshee unfortunately it was blisteringly hot outside and if I had lingered too long I would have been compelled to spend the day in blissful hedonism at The Old Point--by which I mean partaking of the drink Ben Franklin thought was "proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." I am…
