Here is this week's roundup of Twitter highlights posted from my Twitter account:
- Leave the tire kickers behind.
- My son had to get glasses and is wearing them to school for the first time. Any eyeglass wearers have some words of encouragement for him?
- An 8-0 run in overtime sealed the victory for my 6-year-old's basketball team in the early game. Older brother's game tips off in 30.

I get a lot of questions from readers and clients asking me what the difference is between a notebook and a netbook. It's one of the reasons I posted the recent article The naughty and nice of netbooks.
One of the disadvantages to netbooks, as mentioned in the article, is that many of them do not come with any kind of optical (CD or DVD) drive. While technically this is a disadvantage, it doesn't mean you can't work around it.
In fact, my good friend Andy over at the Digitante has written his…

I've followed all of the hype surrounding Microsoft's release of Windows 7. I've seen the commercials. I've read the technology trade articles. I've talked to friends who installed the beta and pre-release versions.
But do you want to know something ironic?
Until yesterday, I had never actually played with a computer with Windows 7 installed. Mainly because I have spent so much time helping others with their computers that I haven't taken care of my own. So I still chug away day after day with…

My clients often relay stories to me about how their children, or even grandchildren, have to teach them how to use their technology gadgets. I always get a chuckle when I hear these stories and wonder how long it will be before the next generation Internet will be developed by a 5-year-old.
One particular story my client told me today really tickled my fancy. She said that her son knows so much more than she does that one time she had to call her son's school and get him out of class just so h…

Today's guest post comes from my friend, Andy, over at The Digitante. I asked Andy if I could re-post this after I asked my followers on Twitter if anyone understood the new Twitter lists feature. Andy replied and told me he had just written about Twitter lists on his blog and agreed to let me re-post it for Noobie's readers. So now, without further ado... Twitter lists.
Twitter started rolling out a new feature about 2-3 weeks ago called lists. Basically, you can group together your fol…

Here's a question I received from one of my readers. I thought everyone could benefit from my reply so I'm including the full question and answer below.
Q: When I tried to open a Word document attachment, a pop up said it was created from a newer version of Microsoft Word and that I needed to install a compatibility pack.
When I clicked through to see what was involved to do that, it came up that it would be a big deal with a number of preliminary steps so I decided it wasn't worth the eff…

I was recently in Best Buy purchasing a computer for a friend. After I picked out the computer and monitor I was escorted to a special checkout line.
This special checkout line should be called the Best Buy up-sell line. When I arrived I was second in line behind an older couple. It took nearly 15 minutes for this couple to get checked out because of the 500 (yes, I am exaggerating) up-sells they had to respond to.
I debated for a second standing behind the salesman and giving a thumbs-up for…

Every time I travel on an airplane, the plane reaches about 30,000 feet at the exact same time I realize I could have rented a movie from the iTunes Store on my iPhone to watch on the plane.
Too little too late.
But not on my recent trip. My family and I arrived at our gate at the Orlando airport with nearly two hours to spare before our flight departed. For the record, I don't need to get to the airport that early but the Disney Magical Express does.
So while my kids played their Nintendo DS…

One of the many highlights for my kids in Disney World was when they got the chance to star in their own video game. They did this thanks to a place called ThinkPlace, sponsored by IBM, in Epcot.
The steps required to star in your own video game are pretty simple. You just need to step inside a special photo booth and do the following:
- Run in place.
- Jump up in the air.
- Do a victory dance.
The result (for my 8-year-old) is this...…

This wasn't my family's first trip to Disney World. We went a few years ago before our kids started school.
I remember on the last visit seeing a bunch of professional photographers scattered throughout the parks. For the first day, we avoided them completely because we thought they were going to try to sell us a bunch of expensive photos.
Only later did we realize that these professional photographers only enhance your entire Disney experience. This is because of something Disney calls the Ph…

just returned from a wonderful weekend vacation at Disney World with my family. It was great to get away from it all for a while but I have to admit, I wasn't exactly able to turn off my technology brain 100%.
So please bear with me as I dedicate the next few blog posts to some very cool technology-related experiences I had on my vacation.
First up, an iPhone app. I know, I know, I love to talk about the iPhone but experiences like this one just make it too easy to do!
Using my iPhone at D…
